When is Cryptic going to get rid of those Gold Farmers?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Everyone knows them as the "U.F.O. guys", but for some reason Cryptic is looking the other way with those Gold Farmers constantly farming Borg Hunt and some flet actions and using exploits to pull it off.

They sell the First Place Blue Gear on the Exchange for cheap, then sell the credits online at their websites.

So Cryptic, when are you going to take action?

Just like every other MMO out there; theyre gonna make a big show of it then do nothing.

Only way Ive ever even heard of this getting a dent in it was when a country shut down all servers from outside gaming companies, then "that one" MMO lost about half the population cause thats what they were apparently doing lol

    Wait....there are gold farmers?

How? I mean how? You can't solo fleet actions yourself...and....why?

The economy must be hurting if they're farming STO.

Besides who's buying STO energy credits? You don't get much more worthless as far as currency goes.

I haven't got any goldspam in months either. And I doubt that the RA in Sirius Sector DSE's is a goldfarmer, what's the point of selling lowlevel gear for credits,it's just not worth the time invested. As a RA I do too visit the Sirius DSE's,but that is because I'm either bored or when I'm on one of my newbie patrols in my Runabout. What's the point of buying credits anyway, with all the TRIBBLE you get from the exploration missions?

The big question is how can you gold farm when you cant transfer EC from player to player? the only was to get Credits to my other characters is transfer them items to them to sell... I have seen these U.F.O guys allot in War Zones... They do not defend themselfs if attacked. They are there all day long... for me by the time i get my daily done i bored to death with the War Zone...

If it wasn't for UFO, Klingons would have to actually do the map in Kar'rat, instead of just spawn camp kill Feds all night. Farmers know how to glitch faction on demand to always play the winning side. You have to appreciate their style, and the fact 9/10 of the time Feds don't realize they are getting robbed by Farmers.

Feds fleets are so disorganized most don't realize farmers hide in plain sight in STO.

    Just saying...

This game has the fewest # of gld farmers I've ever seen in an MMO. Honestly that's not a good sign.

there used to be LOADS of them remember? heh.

I think it is just a good spam killer system that Cryptic has in place now.

I see one get past every once in a while..... I'm sure all the chat "reports" shut those accounts down pretty fast though.

hehe..... I remember having to brace myself every time I zoned in to Spacedock.....

( I give Cryptic Huge Kudo's for fixing the spam problem..... there are only occasional annoyances nowadays )

More to do with the fact, that the "best stuff" in game can't be bought with credits and is solley based on how much the person itselfe does (marks, emblems etc.)

Also since you can't farme those and can't trade em and the equipment you buy is bound on pick up doesn't help the fact either... :p

And people who farm in ker'rat are stupid... there are ways to get money far easier, just by logging in for a few minutes....

The only time I did that was when I was trying to rebuild my bridge officers. Then I discovered the Cardassian sectors paid out more BO points. Now my sole RA is in the Borg sectors (on Tribble - he's currently parked on the Holodeck server).

I will say, goldfarmers, spammers, and other things killed my experience with Silkroad Online - if only because they clogged up the servers to the point that I could never log on.

Yeah, Goldfarmers never really bothered with the Klingons, because it was more efficient to spam people from the tutorial. Which is why all those safeguards were put in place.

But with STO bombing, they are moving to other games. Right now their main target is likely SW:TOR.

Here in STO, a few remain and camp Fleet Actions and War Zones for Blues and then sell them on the exchange for profit, some might play stock exchange and buy cheap goods and sell for higher prices. Then they take the money and sell the credits online at their Gold Sites.

But they are ALWAYS there, especially in Borg Hunt. Gearing up in Escorts with the fastest engines, taking advantage of the flaws in the nodes, scanning them. And overpowering others when it comes to taking down the Hubs.

This is what they do. Which is why Cryptic needs to be proactive once again and deny these people with their new strategy.

You can't say that about every game. WoW put some real tech behind dealing with gold farmers but the problem was that as the biggest target, the gold farmers kept finding ways around whatever Blizzard did.

STO is a smaller target, so I'll pretty much be satisfied if I don't have to hear the constant spam, which I don't.

Sure would be nice to see some gold buyers get banned from time to time though.

Actually EC's are like water in the game. I can generate millions a day (heck in hrs if i wanted).

I think most Gold sellers just left. First off, probably the player base didn't go for it so no income going in. Second, Cryptic might have something keeping them out (i.e. flagging chinese, russian, Finnish, Swede, etc IPs and have a program monitoring them. If they do some routine it flags and boots). Third, STO is not a big game so then might have moved onto bigger fish.

However, everything is speculation unless Dan or crew mentiosn something new about it...

I don't see why it's Cryptic's duty to sort out the players. We pay them for a Star Trek sandbox to play in, not police it.
