Hi all,
It occurred to me today that once the Excelsior and Nebula are added, pretty much all the canon ship classes can be found in STO. The only ones left I can think of are...
- Ambassador
- New Orleans
- Oberth
- Constellation
- Soyuz (at a push - basically just a Miranda)
- Universe (Enterprise-J type, probably a bit too far in the future; style wouldnt fit with the others IMHO)
So what is Cryptic going to use for Tier 6? Clearly people like canon stuff, so people aren't really going to want to fly tier 6 vessels when all the cool ships from the TV shows are at tier 5!
Whats going to happen here? Are Cryptic going to allow refits at T6 also so we can still fly proper Star Trek ships?
Edit: Please dont take this as a complaint or a rant. I LOVE Cryptic's decision to bring back the T4 vessels for the VA rank, and all the ships in game are beautiful and clearly meticulously designed by people who loved the shows as mch as we do.

And a lot of them dont like the new classes that Cryptic come up with.
IE (me personally) the Star Cruisers that seem to just look like upside down canon ships
*slaps forehead*
Oh yeah!

IMO they should sell the game to a company that CAN do the things they are expected to do but thats my opinion
(ignore it as you will lol)
OTOH, I happen to like Star Cruisers' appearance (and functionality). Go figure.
Hehehe...
I have some of those books within reach of this desk...
This is exactly what I mean. I dont hate Cryptic's designs, but given the choice I'd rather fly something from one of the TV shows or movies.
Plus yeah, the star cruiser isn't great. Have you tried the Nomad skin? Its much nicer.
Never said everyone doesnt like it lol I in fact specifically noted that I dont in particular
I dont see a class bigger than battleship - which we already have lol
Neat database though
No, I just joined a couple weeks ago, and have had to go with Youtube and Google to see what the ships look like so far.
There is an "Assault Ship" category which feature more powerful ships than the ones in the "Battleship / Battle-Cruisers" category. There are 3 ships in this category: Continent, Kolm-An, and the Makin classes.
Also, at the bottom under "Misc" is the Illustrious class carrier.
Personally, I dont understand how anyone can like them, they completely defy Star Trek Design patterns, Even the Klingons have this problem, their new Carrier looks like something out of the Shadows on Babylon 5!
The Canon ships will only get us so far in STO as the refit option will only work to a certain point. As it stands, the Sovereign, Prometheus and Intrepid pretty much represent the pinnacle of Starfleet technology by the time of Nemesis. Already technically speaking, there is no canon T5 science vessel as the Luna has never appeared or been mentioned and the Star Cruisers etc show us thoughts to where an organisation like Starfleet might go next for the newer classes of ships.
I suppose what I mean is we're effectively in a Canon blank spot at that point so it's something that needs to be thought about for "what's next?".
Me too, FASA section is left of Last Unicorn Section is left of Decipher Section :P
I've also got several feet of bookshelves dedicated to the novels. All of them. Took years. Please help me
I was kind of thinking that would go under the escort variant to battleship. I havent gotten that far yet. I dont see those little looking ships being cruiser variants
Thats actually incredibly scary AND sad given how long this game has been out you know? lol
For instance, a T6 Escort might be a Refit T5 Prometheus with Multi-Vector Assault Mode capability.
OMG! I never thought about it  It's only been some months now and we're basically out of canon ships!
I hope the refit opion will save us form this nightmare
The Celestial-class Star Cruiser is sleek, has nacelles in pairs with a deflector under the saucer, and looks like a Sovereign with 40 more years of time for Utopia Planitia to upgrade Starfleet's cruisers.
Yes, please jump directly to the assumption in screaming "DOOOOOOOM" when Im merely pointing out a flaw.
Sacagewea and Iwoa look familiar
I looked over some of those designs. The canon regarding much of those ships is dubious at best (except for the obvious ones). And to be honest - some of these ships are uglier than even some of Cryptic's designs.
Looks like they were based on the Saber-class, just as the Rapier and Ushaan are in game. In fact, the Iowa kinda looks like the Ushaan.
The Cryptic ships are canon? Cause noting that the canon on these ships being dubious is somewhat pouintless if youre comparing them to ships that dont have any
I was talking canon as far as the TV/movie franchise is concerned. Generally speaking, TPTB in Paramount/CBS don't consider books, games, and other non TV and flim media to be canon.
again, noting the questionable canon omn ships that have it as compared to ships that have no canon at all is weird to me
cause yer saying the ships that he mentioned have dubious canon. The Cryptic ships dont have any that Im aware of, so isnt it better to have ships with dubious cannon rather than none?
And the guys in CBS/Paramount dont seem to ghave huge ussues with putting ships that arent canon in either lol
/vote New ships!
