I was in need of some data samples yesterday to raise my level in crafting so I jumped into the Exchange and saw a big range of prices to a couple of data samples types, some as low as 10000 per piece but others as high as 25000 a piece.

So I was wondering if you guys have a personal rule or set of rules to come up with a price when posting at the Exchange, data samples or any other item.

I did a little experiment with some Personal Shields I crafted, 5 of them identical, I posted one at the original value (the value stated in the item description) the others 4 at 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x that value. The one priced at 1x sold within a couple hours, the 2x and 3x sold within 7 or 8 hours, the remaining are still on sale. I'll keep that on mind the next time I post something at the exchange, but with the data samples I'm not that sure about how to set a fair price. I know that anything is worth whatever the customer is willing to pay for it, but the current prices seems a little to high for my taste.

So what do you think about this topic guys?

Face value - usually rounded down to the nearest 100 or 1000 depending on price

I never sell for less than vendor price, but beyond that typically I search for the item im selling view the least price and put what Im selling for slightly less than the lowest, provided it does not go below vendor price.

I cannot tolerate Auction House greed and much of it is driven by gold sellers and people who frankly either know no better or just dont care, or are one of those who until they prevented it recently, were just using the exchange as additional bank space.

I always sell at 2 or 3x face value. It always sells.

If i'm feeling specially greedy, i buy something that is cheap and sell it again at a raised price.

A bit less than everyone else when selling equipment. I've made a fortune that way.

i always sell it around the lowest price, as im not worried about the credits that much jus want to get rid of it and make a little money

but if you think 25'000 is bad wait until you want some data samples on at 9'999'999'999 credits

why anyone would do that is beyond me

I've sold 4 things tops, and bought 2 boffs ages ago, other than that I just toss everything in the replicator, heh they could remove the exchange and I'd probably never notice. No one really needs any item people put up for sale, since you can get everything from pvp/explore marks.

I make enough cash to buy ship and away team consumables and other ships if I get the urge, from what I toss in the replicator.

I sell the data samples I collect when I start to have to have two stacks of the same item type (i.e more than 99 of one kind of data sample) since there is no vendor for these I typically sell at 1000 a sample (10000 for a stack of 10 usually) and they sell quite well. Especially since the only work I do for them is hit the F key every once in a while while flying around B-Tran. Doesn't seem like too much of a ripoff to the buyer either.

I pretty much always sell things cheaper than the current list price on the exchange. It kind of ranges with how expensive the item is, how many are listed, etc. I can take 10k off an expensive item easily for a quick sale. But as long as I get more than selling the item to a NPC, I'm happy.

Just over "cost" for anything under 10K. After that, usually half the value - which is usually ship equipment.

Yes, I saw something like that, it's insane!

BTW searching the forum I find this thread that looks very interesting, I think it's worth the look.

About why someone should care about buying or selling something at the Exchange when you can use the replicator or buying items from vendors with marks, I think not everything it's worth selling or buying at the Exchange, but you can always use a nice blue or purple item boosting that power or skill you are trying out with your build (providing a reasonable pricing).

I don't think any of the Anomalies have a price, so they get priced at what ever they can get stretched to, I think some call it Supply & Demand. I call some of the prices I see by another name. When I was looking for Shield Batts, and others like them, I saw prices like $1,000 Each, and Up. All Batts can be bought at Cro'Nos for $200 ea. 5 Times the sell price, to me is a bit much, so I post them now and then when I get a chance for $400 ea in Lots of 20. All that I post usually sell out in a matter of minuets. When I was posting Weapons, I put them up for about $1,000 to $1,500 over the Counter Price to sell out right, but quite a bit under the Value Price. Those usually sold off quickly also. Since I can only post up to 20 items, I have taken to selling the weps, and only posting the Batts for now.

rules of the exhange or any simeliar thing in any mmo:

1: Never sell below vendor price
2: Never sell when market is flooded and you know at times it is not. (not likely in sto)
    3: undercut by 5%

    simple as that.

I have stopped selling on the exchange.

a while ago I checked to see what I could sell...then checked what I would get to just replicate.... and it wasnt much of a difference.

for example I could just dump an item for 18,000 and the lowest on exchange was 20,000

so I said "why bother" and just quickly replicated em rather than take the time at the exchange..... been doing that for a while now.

alternately although.... I do buy in the exchange.... but I'm not interested in the little amount of profit made from selling...... I have plenty of credits :)

yup. and to add..... I don't like TRIBBLE others out of money, so I'm not interested in trying to get as much as I can by selling to a real player in the exchange ..... replicator gives me plenty of ching to toss around.

IMO, the person who prices things like that are using the Exchange for Storage of Items they do not want to sell, and do not want to store in their Bank. I think I recall that before the lock down at 20 limit, people could list Thousands of Items. If that is not true, then I was misinformed. I think there should be a TIME Limit on any Items Posted, even Old Ones. Say, 30 Days or so, if they do not sell, they should go back to the poster, either in Bank, Cargo, or Email.

Really? I have seen those items for $9,999,999,999 over and over, does that mean that the Owner of them just keeps coming back and re-posting them the same?

Before I sell stuff on the Exchange, I check to see what other similar items are currently listed to gauge prices. Then I find the lowest price and under-cut that by 500/1000 credits. Works just about every time.

I sell all the anomalies I get, usually for 100-500 a pop, always in stacks. They always sell out in less then 15 minutes, so I never bother breaking them down into smaller stacks.

Other than that, I try to do the exchange a favor by adding items I get that I have a hard time finding. Usually I get stacked with rare weapons really fast, so other rare and uncommon items that I know are difficult to come by at a reasonable price get put in there generally for face value rounded up to the nearest thousand, or whatever the highest place is for that item.

Personally, as far as data samples go, its simple supply and demand. If there's something people want badly, but its harder to find, the higher the price.
