New Sector Space (Pics!) Style is way nicer!

I'm very impressed with the new look in the new sector they added, can't wait until we see this new style across all the sectors. Great work devs!

NEW SECTOR SPACE!!!!

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/6269/newsector2.jpg

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2881/newsector3.jpg

few things to note:
-I did Alt+ F12 for these screenshots, so the HUD and the labels for the planets are not shown (but they are there in normal view)
- the ships look different in this area [compare newsector3.jpg with oldsector2.jpg], it might just be because its darker, but the nacelles look really bright (even brighter then they look in the pics) and all the other ship lights have a much more vibrant glow to them. I don't know if its just the lighting of the sector itself... but it looks awsome!
- the grid on the 'bottom' of space is way less neon looking and has a much crisper look to it, you'll also notice in the pic that there are lighter streaks in it, these streaks actually move across the grid, and the whole grid itself fades in and out in random parts, it looks awesome, and gives the whole sector a much more futuristic look to it, like you would expect to see in astrometrics.
-the trade routes are more transparent, and like everything else a lot less neon and intense
- the systems look much more like actual planets and stars (although they are bigger then the ambient stars in the sector) then just big neon orbs on top of lollypop sticks, the lollypop sticks themselves are also a lot less intrusive.

I warped over to Gamma Orionis and snapped a shot of what the standard sector space looks like, it was like a slap in the face after spending time in the new, beautiful, much more 'space-like' sector space. my ship also had duller lighting on it, compare the nacelles and you'll see what I mean.

OLD SECTOR SPACE

it really is something you'll want to check out for yourself especially for the animation of the grid (for the first time, i'm actually glad the grid is there), for me, this is improvement to sector space is just another sign that Cryptic understands the issues people have with the game and are doing there best to make the game we all want to see. thanks you all.

NOTE: I just realized my graphical settings where not quite maxed out (i'm too lazy and tired to redo them), but the pics are a resized 1680*1050 res. but you'll still get the idea

oh i forgot to mention that, they do have little stars zipping past you at warp speed, its subtle and not noticeable in the screenshots since they aren't moving, but they are there!!!!!!

Question, went to Beta Ursae for the first time today and noticed it looked a lot like some of the screenies Ive seen for new sector space. Are there currently sectors already updated?

oh really?? i have no idea if they have changed any of the other sectors yet, someone told me it was just the new one at the moment for testing, but I might actually be wrong on this, I know that Sirius and Gamma Orionis look the same as before, gonna go check beta ursae now

EDIT: I checked Beta Ursae, I don't think they have changed anything there yet, the grid is still very bright, as are the lollypop sticks and trade routes. from what I can tell it is the same as before (compared to Gamma Orionis though, the sectors closer to SOL do look a lot less obnoxious with the neon stuff. my ship also doesn't have the new brightness to the engines and other lights like the new sector does.
I took some screens from Beta Ursae, so you guys can compare the new sector with a sector that isn't as funny looking as Gamma Orionis

notice in pic 4 above how much duller my ship looks compared what it looks like in the new sector

I see ....there is a significant difference in transparency of the grid and the bloom on the engine. Amazing what such small changes can do. YAY for a team that listens to the people!

its called Pilas Sector. I Think, something like that anyway, its not shown on the galaxy map as of yet
but you can get to it from Gamma Orionis after taking the transwarp hub there, its the next sector over (this is the tribble server only too btw)

It looks nicer, but it's still basically the same thing. The floating lines which, I have no idea what they are paths for still, merchant NPCs? The grids which still serve no purpose as to identifying location and thus serve no purpose. And, of course, the 'lollipop' sticks.

It's better, but many of the issues are still the same. It's the same thing made to look a bit differently.

I hate those sticks even more than the grid, which is much improved but would be even better if I could toggle it off.

I really do like the new ship lighting and space being dark finally.

What I like most about it is that the dark-ish background and generally low ambient light level makes ships look much like in one of the originally trailers where the window and engine lights had a beautiful and rich glow on a darker hull. In general the new missions and areas seem to make much better use of lighting and, more importantly, restraint in its magnitude. It really makes the rest of the game look washed-out by comparison.

Plus the "skybox" in which we fly is now really. REALLY big. I mean, just go to gamma orionis and you'll see, you enter really close to the "bottom", and the grid is large. But on the new sector, the bottom is WAY down, and the grid is very tiny. To me, ALL sectors should be like this one, even down to the colors. I don't like that sectors change colors with sovereignty. They should be all dark-blue.

Space looks really spacy now, and not like some old-times cartoon version of space with some cheesy icons and effects.

    Looks more EVE'ey.. :p

From the screens you posted it looks the same only much darker. Have they addressed the problem with your ship not auto-naving around systems?

In a lot of ways it is. It's a demonstration of how small changes can make a huge impact.

You are of course right. I do like the look allot more. They have to get rid of the lollipop stick though, or in the very least make it so you can fly through them.

I could be wrong but I think I knew what they were thinking at least ... it seems during warp (which I think is all sector space) a ship depends all on sensors and after watching some old trek I noticed that their maps were very similar looking to our grid

    hmmm.
just looks like they have reduced the draw distance and decreased the ambient light.
    Looks better but.

I hope they plan on re doing all sector space to look this this for season 2, starting with the Sirius sector and main Klingon sector block.

    VIDEO OF NEW SECTOR SPACE

Very cool, though, I would'a used the TNG theme, its more iconic and suitable for gloryshots of a ship in space, just look at TMP. ;P

I noticed this on Tribble... and I must say, what a vast improvement. Devs should prioritize changing current Sector Blocks to this layout scheme immediately! :D

My only issue with new sector space is still the lollipop sticks holding up the systems, they should make the color of that line CLEAR so that there is no stick holding it up.

Spent a bit of time just wandering around the new sector and taking in the view, it really is incredible the difference it makes. It feels a lot more like you're in space and the ships look and stand out so much better. It was difficult going back to the regular neon lighted sectors.

There are more pressing matters for Season 2, though it would be great if we logged on after patching and found all the sector blocks had been updated to the new look.

but then how would the planets stay floating above the space-floor?
