no 'real' npcs? lack of atmosphere?

is it me or sto lacks serious atmosphere, the only time you really encounter anything like an NPC is a scripted NPC on a scripted mission.

you can fly through klingon space, borg space, fluidic space, without encountering an enemy unless one of those silly DSE's approach you.

theres no seeming life to the universe. no npc ships flying aruond, sure we got some traders, but the space boxes we fly around in are so small and limited with those borders...

whats cryptics plan for this?

i wish they could make a UGC or territory pvp system for season 3 and then spend the rest of the time creating a separate engine to render space in...get rid of those shoe boxes :(

I just had a thought. hurt like hell too. anyway, why not add more DSE's but not the same as what we have now. rather they'll be a 1on1 encounters, on elite no choice but you can still leave if you preferr not to engage, where if you destroy said ship w/out dying the enemy drops purple. you die once, it's blue, twice=green, 3x white, 4 or more it's a battery.

I have news for you: space is REALLY BIG and REALLY EMPTY. Cryptic actually has waaaaaaaay too much stuff floating around space, scientifically speaking. It is entirely plausible and probable that you can cross sectors of space without encountering any other ships. That, and the fact that you are traveling may times faster than the speed of light means you wouldn't be able to see any of them unless the were relatively close to you and going about the same speed.

but the fact remains...OP stated there's a lack of atmosphere" in-game".

who cares about how vast space actually is in the real world...we know that.

OP is talking about in-game atmosphere...... not Sagans' Cosmos.

Do you understand how BIG space is and how little life there is in it in comparison to how much there could be?

    Hey Arkantos...

Unfortunately, big empty space would not be very much fun to play. We already have people griping about sector space being boring.

The game should be more fun than reality.

i want that game then, where we have to wait 10 years to travel to another system to get a mission.

because there is no warp drive in real life either. and while your at it we should have space shuttles cause we dont got space ships yet.

    you following me?

While it is true, and you could seriously ask NASA and get the same answer, Space IS Boreing and empty, I've heard NASA has to resort to photo-shopping several hubble images together to have something interesting to show people in press conferences.

However, this is Star Trek Online not Space Online, and in Star Trek Space is as Gene envisioned a Wild West Frontier full of excitement and adventure, so I do agree STO could use more 'life'.
