Idea for a Complete Overhaul of PVP

As we know, battles in the Star Trek Universe are not fought by ships of the same tier. These battles have a huge variety of ships in all different categories and tiers.
This said my suggestion goes as follows:

1. Create a ratio for comparing Tier 1 ships to Tier 5, along with each class of ship so there is some sort of point system attached to each ship in the game.

2. Using the ratio above, implement this in to PVP.

3. Remove the strict 5v5,7v7,10v10 limits, and replace with a Max Points (for ships)

4. With the above implemented, players would be able to choose to go to battle in say a Tier 2 Nova Class ship, but know that there would be a ratio where as an example 5 Nova Class ships would equal 1 Sovereign Class ship.

5. This would also open up the opportunity to allow for Runabout to be used in PvP without such a harsh handicap to the team using them. (Think 40 Runabouts vs 5 Battle Cruisers:cool:)

6. Possibility is now open to allow PVP without a Rank Cap, allowing new players to PVP with players of all ranks above them.

I don’t want to tout my horn here, but I really think this would be pretty epic if implemented. That’s not to say there wouldn’t be a need to fine tune so of the ratios, but in the end, I think it would be much more canon, and a heck of a lot more fun.

I've mentioned this to countless people in game and have received a great response. I've also posted some of this in other threads relating to PVP changes, including an all Runabout map, however have decided to start my own thread on it.

I like it...but instead of complete overhaul, which would probably yield too much QQ from the "true pvpers" i would instead make this possible on a special map. It would be ideal map for PuGgin :o

    Its an interesting idea.
Could be fun as a second option.
My guess would be fleets of tier 4 and 3 ships would run the show. :)
I know when I level new toons I can dominate the lower tiers when I am rank 1 or 2.
If 7 or 8 good players in tier 3 or 4 ships ran against 5 RA ships it would be a slaugher.

i hve a better idea, let players host matches where u can set limitations on ship class :PP

like all pistols in rogue spear.

I just think it would help balance out a lot of issues, even of ships in the same tier.

Take for example the Bird of Prey.
There is no way in hell a BoP should be able to go toe to toe with a Sovereign class ship.
    3 BoPs...well now you're talking.

This is why I really think a ratio needs to be set comparing each ship to one antoher.

As I mentioned, if you gave each ship a point value for this ratio, you could then also have a scoring system based on this point system for PvP maps, rather than just kills.
For example, this would make it more viable to attack the Cruisers than the Runabouts, as the cruisers are more valuable.

I think this is an absolutely great idea, but it definitely needs it own special map/s

About the only downside I can think of is that the more maps you add the more you fragment the already dwindling PvP community. I guess this new mode might be immune to that though, as it would in a way unify PvP between all the tiers!

I dunno..you know that other huge thread asking if people think pvp is balanced ?....

    consensus is pretty unanimous.

so a complete overhaul is kinda moot if you ask me.

I agree your idea would be fun as an add on... not the only game mechanic.

I have to say though I hear all the time theres no way a bop should be able to _____ insert what ever here. :)

Why not this is a game and all ships should be balanced....
Meaning 1 Well piloted BOP should be able to take down any ship, including the enterprise.
Meaning 1 Well piloted Escort should be able to take down a carrier.

Which is the way it is at the moment. I have also seen well piloted Soverigns tank 3 bops. Skill should be able to trump any ship advantage.

We all watched Riker kick picards backside in an old broken down ship.
Good Tactics should be able to overcome hull and shield advantages....

Sorry back the post... this would be a really fun game mode,

I don't disagree with you on this, but the key is skill, and currently not a lot of it is needed. I'm not saying my idea is the End All Be All of how things should be, but hopefully it can stir up some idea with the Dev team so we could have more canon space battles.

Hehe, ya but he used a low grade version of Photonic Fleet :p Had more to do with his "Bridge Officer" and "Captain Abilities" than the ship itself....which I'm fine with.

I too want to see more of 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3 PvP. Because you are more about the individual's PvP skills than groups such as premades or PvP fleets.

    My PvP Zone Ideas:

Basic Open PvP Zone - Which is basically a large empty zone which PvP can take place, which a population cap of 30. In which Cryptic could add various hiding spots for Federation ships that could hide a player (such as "behind the moon", "above the magnetic pole", nebulas, or asteroids fields.

Free Rank Open PvP: Where any rank can PvP, but players are still either Federation or Klingon. So a Negh'var can go pick on a Miranda or a 2 B'rels going toe to toe with an Excelsior. (Zone would be limited to a population cap of 10).

Territorial PvP (Space): Simlar to Capture and Hold, but on a greater scale.

Where territory is controlled by capturing points. Where each point is at equal distances on the far corners of the map. And to capture the point, you have to beam on board the station and accomplish certain tasks to gain control. So PvP can take place in Space or on the station.

Population limits set to either 10 or 20, to ensure strategy.

Station Defenders can have access to base defenses to delay attackers.

    Territorial PvP (Planetary):

Space Zones are Open PvP of unlimited population and open to all ranks with various hiding spots in orbit.

Players can beam down, to safe locations to respective bases. Then they can gear up and then proceed to their choice of battlefields. For instance:

To the North can be a Swamp Battlefield.
To the South can be a Mountainous Battlefield.

And players must make their way to the center (between the two bases), in which players fight over control over a central base, NPC village, or Ruins. Where whomever wins, can gain control of the planet.

PvEvP - Battle for the Loot: Similar to the above, instead of gaining control of a world, players battle for rights to access to a PvE dungeon, where you go to battle a Boss-level opponent for the chance to acqure a rare unique drop.

PvEvP - Antagonists: Where two players on opposite sides are sent on a PvE mission (can be storyline driven), where they act as each other's antagonist.

For instance a Federation player might be tasked to escort a Freighter to X, while a Klingon player has to either board or destroy that frieghter.

This is how I would like PvP to be handled than the Arena-type battles we end up having to fight constantly.

I must admit that these are some interesting Ideas.
