DELETE Chief Medical and Chief Engineer from Spacedock! Put them Sickbay/Engineering!

Cryptic, you need to DELETE the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Engineer from Earth Spacedock! Put them in our ship's Sickbay and Engineering instead!

Let us choose a BO and assign them as Chief Engineer and Chief Medical Officer. These officers still can come on away missions, but they now appear in Sickbay and Engineering instead of the bridge. They have the on-ship abilities of the CMO and CE on Earth Spacedock, so we can repair our ship and heal our crew onboard our ships.

EDIT: Wait ... if you want to be able to assign your own officers to those slots, then why would they need to delete the ones in space dock? There needs to be the functionality at space dock. Just cause it's space dock. Space dock is perfectly good spot to repair your ship. That's what it's for in the shows and what not.

    Why not just keep both...

I'm all for adding them to the ship too.

I'd like to see the option of having BO's that fell in battle to beam right to the sick bay beds as well..... and get that cool life monitor from ToS working behind thier heads on the wall.... :):)

I like this idea too... exepct the part about deleting the NPCs in ESD. Keep those where they are but definately allow us to select a BO to fill these spots on our ships and have them show up in the proper parts of the ship.

Agreed, keep the ones in the various space stations as they are (after all, stations have their own CMO and Engineering staff), but add in the mechanic of specific role assignment for BOs on ship. Right now, it just feels too much like we're flying around with a bunch of non-specialized crewmen.

Best solution is a compromise. CMO and Chief Engineer on the starship should be capable of doing smaller scale (Minor?) while Starbases should have much more extensive abilities (Major/Critical, etc). Otherwise, I'd say the Starbase should be alot more effective (cheaper EC cost?). Logically, the starbase should always be more efficient than sending crew EVA, etc... but just not as convenient.

If they let ships have a CMO and CE, then they should only be able to repair minor damage. Major damage should still require putting into spacedock.

    I like having both.

However, I think it would be cool if major repairs need to be done to your ship, that they be done with Space Dock only. The minor repairs could be done with you engineer on board. Just makes sense imo.

I say, have your chief Engineer and Chief Medical Officer on your ship be able to fix minor damage and the the ones at Space Dock/Starbase should be for major/critical damage.

    good idea......

and the place to do it should be by pulling your ship into one of the numerous docking structures floating around the space station.

well the ones in space dock let you heal your crew and repair your ship without the use of your own components or things so rather than letting you heal and repair your ship like that on the ship why not make it so that you go to engineering and have your chief engineer repair the ship but use the components rather than just going into your inventory and clicking on the item

True, this is good and makes sense. The trick now is, does your Captain really need to go to Engineering (or sickbay) to have the C.E. do this every time? Or can he simply use the intercom to tell him to do it. Running down to Engineering every time a nut needs tightening will get tiring after the novelty wears off.

I would like to see ESD fully renovated with the door tech and an area for the CMO that makes something resembling sense.

Also I'd like the space model to be destroyed and replaced by something that doesn't look like my cat coughed it up.

What I would've done for this instance would be to have chief medical officers and chief engineers onboard our starships repair it or tend to injured officers for the appropriate number of energy credits or the appropriate repair/medical supplies.

At a spacedock, repairs and treatments are free, and you can replenish yourself on common engineering/medical supplies at a cheaper E-Credits price than if you make repairs while in deep space.

That way, spacedocks remain optimal places to resupply, effect repairs or treat your people... but if you want to handle these things while abroad you'll either need to use what supplies you brought along or your replicator resources, etc...

Actually, I know what the OP is saying. She wants to have the Space Dock Officers actually be your Bridge Officers instead. Thus, you wouldn't need the space dock NPC's because they'd be your bridge officers, thus giving more of a feel and connection to your BOF's. Good idea, I'm all for it.

Example: Like your beaming back to your ship from a space port, instead of a space dock NPC, it would be one of your BOF's. OR if your switching sectors, instead of a space dock NPC, it would be one of the BOFs.

I was hoping to see our holographic doctor BO in sickbay as he never seems to show up on the bridge.

    Totally agreed.

I would add to this that we should have to bring the components or regenerators to the specific people before they can repair/heal the ship/crew.

It makes sense doesn't it? Your ship gets a gaping hole in the hull, you don't patch it yourself, you authorise your chief engineer to take a patch out of stores and fix the hull. You need both the tools and the expertise to perform tasks such as repair or healing. Add that to the fact that such functions take time, which could be accounted for by the time taken to walk to engineering/sickbay.

There was talk of an injury-healing minigame to be added to Engineering and Sickbay. I would hope that doesn't end up just applying to Minors.

For the Sickbay version that would strike me as COMPLETELY appropriate :D

you should be able to assign one of your science BOFFs as the chief medical officer, then they would sit in that Dr. Crusher chair in sickbay

Yeah, and maybe we could even get a Doctor-Crusher blue robe for them (or ourselves)?

But I would have no problem with leaving the CMO on Earth Spacedock, just let us put one in our sickbay. It also adds function to interiors.

The best idea is to have both locations available, though I do think that for the really serious wounds you should have to dock at a station with better medical facilities then an active starship can support, IE Critical wounds needs a starbase medical trip. As far as removing the option from the dock, would you support an edit of DS9 so that O'Brien and Bashir are excised from the series? Most postings have someone in this position after all.
