So, I spend two stinkin' days downloading this game, am rather excited about it, and even get to start playing with a 30 day free trial?! Awesome..... yeah, right. I spent 3 hours in game, and am now completely locked out of everything. All I get is stupid messages to go online and buy the game. What's the point of having a 30 day trial if you max out the trial in 3 hours?!?! So far, STO is the biggest waste of time, and the biggest let down of any game I've played.
Now, perhaps I missed something. Perhaps someone out there reading this can clue me in on how to actually get my use out of this 30 day trial. Anyone out there able to help? Or did I waste two days downloading this, for a 3-hour session of game time?
we can;t answer your questions because beyond all the nerd rage, which is understandable, you never mentioned what you finished, where you are up to, or any of that.
Cause, knowing those little details may help us players be able to advice you to say "go here and try this" and if that doesn't work, then yes, trials finished.
But without knowing where you are at, or what you have finished, etc, we cannot advise you at all.
Ok, I finished all the newbie missions getting used to gameplay and such. I was sent to Sol System to talk to Admirial (something). Then I had to go to the SS Azura (I think that was the ship). After finishing the Azura ship's mission, that's it. All I can do is hail HQ and talk to Admiral (so-and-so) and he tells me to buy the full version... or I can hail Commander (such-and-such) and he just gives me descriptions of what a patrol mission is, blah blah blah. I have traversed space to go to other systems, and it only tells me that I can't access that.
I was able to recruit two Bridge Officers, and right after that, i'm stuck on this stalemate.
* The SS Azura mission is where you have to go aboard and close 3 reactor/radiation leaks, then after that's done you have to talk to the sick ship members and get them out. Once you leave the ship, there are some pirates waiting that you have to kill, 2 of which are battleships.
I'm pretty sure in 30 days you could level your toon and do 26 days of end game if they gave you the full thing, then you'd have to decide if the PVP or repetitive STFs were worth the continued sub.
Let me also add, that for many MMO's a trial is only of starter instances and limited access to areas. That is industry standard.
You can't expect an MMO demo to have access to everything going towards rear admiral ranks, that is an unrealistic expectation.
Yes the demo client may have the full universe in it, and full game, that is also industry standard, but you can normally only unlock everything by...you know....making your account a subscription and not demo account.
That is industry standard for MMO demo's, yes some are different, some are not.
However, i think (I don't personally know) that the STO demo has access to all of sirius sector block, which means from vulcan to risa, etc, with countless DSE missions and sector patrols let alone story missions. Definately more than 3 hours of stuff. You should try talking to admiral quinn in the admirals office on Starbase 1 near earth. Then if you think your stuck in space at spacedock, press the spiral galaxy symbol and you'll warp to sector space.
Edit: just read your reply. Try this, describing sector patrols usually unlocks them, try talking to winters again.
Ah, that's the guy's name... Admiral Quinn. He doesn't give me anymore missions. And I know that a demo version will not have everything unlocked, but i Definately expected more than 3 hours worth. I have talked to many NPCs in base, and flown all over the place in space sector. Neither of those have been beneficial. If STO only gives you a 3 hours play period to base your decision to buy a full account on, they are over estimating their product.
I don't expect to reach Admirial rank on a demo mode, but I am surpirsed at my 3 hour limit. Or, Dissapointed is more like the word I was looking for.
P.S. I flew to both of them..... imagine that, they are ALSO locked!
If the demo does end with Azura, that's actually kind of cheap, IMHO. Seems like the demo could showcase more of the game's range, and stand a better chance of getting people "hooked," by letting people play through all the Sirius Sector Block content.

No doubt. That would be the obvious trial account area methinks. Again the guy running the show on the marketing end seems to not have an inherent grasp of the product, market, player base and a whole host of other things. It simply amazes me to think about at all the marketing failures with this game since release.
If it is in fact the case... Really 30 days with access to a couple missions - WTF? A massive marketing failure yet again. How about promoting it as trial account "Special Mission Assignments" (SMA) pack and market it as a multi hour experience. Doing the 30 day thing will only irk off people like the OP and defeat the purpose of the promotion in the first place and in fact may even work against the game as the irked person will surely tell friends.

30 days should mean 30 days period. If it's something else then it should be called something else like limited trial account or some such or better yet: DEMO.
this has been explained multiple times on this forum; in order to use your 30 free days, you need to set up a subscription, either with a game time card, or using a credit card/paypal. They won't charge you for the next month, or use time off your game time card until the 30 days are up, as cold_gin explained, you always have the option to un-sub before the 30 days are up, and they will not charge you a cent if you did. This type of billing system is an industry standard, every subscription based MMORPG does this. They just require the card information to ensure that you are good for the next payment.
You're confusing the free 30 days of play that came with your box, with the Demo, which is limited to only that content. once you set up a sub, it will unlock all the rest of the content in the game.

you could just subscribe, roll with the 30 trial days with no restrictions, then at day 29 unsub or stay on depending if you feel it's worth it ....
therefore not having to pull the fancy-Nancy tantrum.
use the noodle poodle.
.:cool::rolleyes::)

See the rest of my post. Maybe you read it while I was updating.
