To be honest, all the outcry people have about the C-Store, in my opinion, should only be taken with a grain of salt and a pinch of humor.
I was having tons of fun reading the OP and imagining that posters' avatar grinning with pleasure for every green item and stomping its feet in rage with every red item.
Sometimes, the forums can be just as fun as the game itself!
Kinda glad youre not in charge then
If they just laughed it off every time the players got angry, well, think about it if they never ever listened to us.
Frankly considering that the Defiant update and the rest of the ships in Season 2 are not in the C-store, I don't consider the Galaxy-X a game breaking ship, its only game breaking because its balancing ships arent live yet. I do also fail to see how the Excelsior and Nebula are game breaking as to my knowledge noones flown one yet.

That makes two of us, because if I were in charge my plan for the C-Store would be completely different.
You see, what I'd do if I were in charge, would be to have each and every game asset that is being developed completely obtainable in-game without paying extra cost. Yes, that's right, everything for exactly the fees everyone's paying.
However, you know those Accolades, Achievements, Badges and Titles tons of people love to display and brag about? Well, the Accolades, Achievements, Badges and Titles themselves would be obtainable in-game, of course, but... to display them on your character, for everyone to see? That would cost you 11 Cryptic Points per Accolade, Achievement, Badge or Title, each time you changed whatever was displayed on your character.
Hrm if you consider the store like Chris Anderson's "Long Tail," it is in a way an attempt to increase a games revenue stream before quarterly numbers have to be submitted and budgets moving forward are approved. I don't see the model going away anytime soon as it would seem to have so far been a success. The number of Galaxy-X's floating around show that there is honestly an 'exploitable' market for the store. Of course we don't have to like that, I myself an certainly not of the mind of paying $25 for what amounts to an intangible object that I will never truly own. Now if I could get like say the Hallmark ornament they made of the Galaxy-X if I bought it, then THAT would encourage me to buy the thing

Actually that would be much more suitable. ie. everything pertaining to the actual IP we're supposed to be playing, available in game.
There is no time sink in this game, and what every MMO needs is something to keep the players playing. Blizzard may have created the ultimate end game grind catch 22, but pursuit of items in game keeps the players going.

Indeed, that's what I'd do, but on the other hand, I definitely see anything and everything currently in the C-Store as items that I at least do not truly require to enjoy playing Star Trek Online.
In my opinion, it is perfectly OK if not everything pertaining to the actual IP we're supposed to be playing, comes free of charge.
Sorry, the 2 words seem to get used interchangably by people, how do you see them as game changing vs what we have gotten in game already/will be getting in game?

How would you feel if every ship they come out with from here on out is CStore instead of free? Thats what theyve done so far... Excelsior and Nebula are the first non skin ships added to the game that arent "special" like the GalX, and look where they are. Its a precident
New Off-Duty Costumes: Not really fine!
The only reason I say this is because we have such a CRAPPY and LIMITED selection of off-duty stuff currently! I'd swear it wasn't a CRYPTIC game because the CUSTOMIZATION SUCKS HERE!
Sure, it's technically purely vanity. However don't you think you should IMPROVE the really TRASHY, TRIBBLE-QUALITY Off-Duty Uniform customization before you start charging for extras?
NOT fine. Little things like this should be free content, not something to sell.
With this exception I agree with the gist of what the OP is saying.
The C-Store in itself is fine, but in some ways its being mis-used, particularly with upcoming season 2 stuff.
Now I wouldn't mind seeing hard to obtain in-game items in the C-store, EG Nebula being a hard to get ship, and being able to pay to have it instantly....
I definitely feel strongly on the off duty costumes.
The current stuff is nice looking, but so so limited as compared to the on duty uniforms.
Hint to the Cryptic staff; C-Store stuff like emotes and costumes and species should not even *be* C-Store only until/unless there is already a **big** and varied selection in-game that we *don't* have to pay an additional price for.
Species might qualify here, on special occasions, but off duty costumes? no way.
Thats just nickel and diming, and I say this usually being a rabid Cryptic supporter.
Not this time.

As i recall Dstahl did say the main reason they are going in thru the c-store is because they are jumping the develeopment queue to provide them, and as such the only way they could justify it to TPtB(the powers that be) was to charge. HE did also say he was trying to work a way they would be obtainable in game too

This is the main reason I still have faith in the developers.
They may make mistakes, but sometimes thats our fault for asking for it, and usually they seem ready to listen to feedback to at least some degree regardless.
Certainly more than any other on or offline game I have ever seen....
Fed here, you guys are going to get species/culture specific outfits... for free?
Think I've made my counter point.
Speaking as a KDF Klingon Female I have 2(Two) options for what to wear on my Torso and I think maybe 5 options for pants. And you have how many? (This does not include color variations of course.)
My point is there is plenty of emotes for both sides, and alot of clothing options for the Feds. C-Store is supposed to be for cosmetic or small game changes. Like additional emotes, BO slots, character slots, and so on. I don't see a problem. My actual problem is with a C-Store at all, which is another issue entirely.

And like Ive said, Ill believe it when I see it. Ive seen far too many TRIBBLE statements and lies come from Cryptic employees to believe everything they say now.
I asked this before, but what exactly has he done that has given him this reputation of helping the players that he seems to have? All I ever see are words promising this and that, that are meant to appease people.

I'm not a KDF player, but I did try it atleast and I definately agree its far too limited as far as customization goes. Off-duty uniforms would be a nice addition to the KDF. Like the robes klingon monks wear, the non-military clothing and Mok'bara outfits. So much they could add.

Very true, assuming its not C-Store
Like I said, I feel there needs to be more off duty costumes for feds before new off duty stuff starts hitting the C-store (on duty stuff we have plenty of, so thats ok)
As for Klingons it will be quite a while before its ok in my book to put any of their costumes on the C-store....
They just need alot more wearables period.

I'd really like to see the lib. borg playable race on the c-store, though. THAT, I'd pay for.

And thats the main thing, everyone has a unique opinion.
I used to feel similarly about micro-transactions, but I've changed my mind over time.
I think they can be a good thing assuming they are done right....... Now if Cryptic will end up doing it 'right' only time will tell.....
And even the 'doing it right' is subject to every person's definition....
Wow. Suddenly I see the pain of being an MMO producer or developer......
