It should be able to be changed in mission. I play Space on Elite. I hate having to warp out of system to change it to normal when I go to ground. I also hate how if I forget to change it back to elite when I do a new mission, the space part is stuck on Normal.
should be easy enough to add two sliders seeing ground and space are clearly seperated on many fronts allready i doubt they have much of a link and thus it should be easy enough and be a very welcome addition.
I hate ground combat and have zero skills invested in it also because I do mostly pvp so doing a bit of a challenging mission in space is fun on the ground it is hopeless for me (try elite ground mobs wihtout skills :P)

Same here. I couldn't care less for ground. I haven't even attempted Elite on Ground because I know I'll die (I already find ground a little difficult on normal, particularly Borg Ground).

same wish I could skip ground combat all together. It is slow dragging and just plain Dull
Really? All the Difficulty option does is scale the enemies. Unless that's sarcasm you're using.
You're asking for you to be able to change the setting after you've entered the zone at a specific setting.
I do not think they have the tech to be able to grant your request. Instead you have to zone out and change the setting. So yes, really I do not think they can grant this request you have made.
I notice you did not think this over while sitting down in your captain's chair. I would ask why you did not sit down in your chair, but then again, I believe we all know why. They are still working on making it possible to sit in a chair. Sit. In a chair.
Do you see what I'm getting at? Chair sitting? 6 months and still in development.
Being able to change mission settings on a mission you already entered?
Instead you have to zone out and change the setting.
But that doesn't work. Even if I drop the mission and reacquire it with the difficulty set to Elite, it remembers that I entered at Normal.

I suggest you stop your quasi-trolling tactics. The difficulty in this game works just like most other games: Enemies merely scale. In many other games I can change the difficulty on the fly, because it only requires the stats of the enemies to be changed. Perhaps it maybe because of it being an instanced MMO, but I specifically turned off autojoining: I am always in my own instance, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Post on topic, please. Its in practically every forums' ToS/CoC/Policies/etc.
rather then ask them to change something for you, why dont you learn some ground combat skills.
seems a bit childish to want space at elite and ground too damn easy.
take it for what they gave you.
all or nothing.
learn the game rather then make them change it for you.

I have learned the game. From Day One, where ground was very easy, I was BORED with it. It was just dumb. Its not particularly that I find Ground hard (In fact, it became easier when I found it practically requires blue+ items. With those, its a cake walk, a long boring cakewalk), I just don't like it.
And having to constantly switch the difficulty is cumbersome (and I often forget to switch it back).

Problem is the design of the game is flawed here.
I cannot be a solid pvper unless I focus my skill points
which means I cannot do a challenging mission because I die on the ground due lack of skill points.
We would need some dual spec here like they got in wow for a good reason, one for pvp one for pve everyone happy.
Not to mention ground combat still sucks majorly in my opinion.

then challenge yourself and your BOs.
use less hard hitting weapons, a weaker kit...etc.
i understand many dont like the ground aspect, but i like it just as much as the space myself.
i find space a tad bit boring then the ground really, even though i do like it.
given that though, there are two aspects to the game: space and ground.
i think the fact it makes you leave then return is ample enough punishment for wanting an easier run on the ground. kinda like you wanting the answers to part of the test to make it easier for you.
kinda like you wanting the answers to part of the test to make it easier for you.
Except that tests don't test you on 2 completely unrelated areas.
The simple fact is, if you're going to have a game with 2 different types of play, you need to account for the fact that there's going to be people who prefer one type over the other, and a significant number of them. Cryptic has not accounted for this fact.

why do people always feel this game has to be like other games?
if youur focused on space combat, fine. you made the call to spend the points there.
so your saying you want to bypass a part of the game becuase you you spent all your points in space and not ground?
see, this is the whole reason for me saying no. you chose a build knowing there was ground in the game, now your crying for an alteration to fit you and your style rather then conforming to how cryptic has layed out the game.
i dont feel for you. spend a few points in ground or learn to deal with it.

I don't know about the other poster, but I'm not saying I want to bypass ground, I want to be able to change the difficulty on the fly (or have an option for each area). Even at low, Lt level, with no skills or BO powers anyway, space was too easy.

sigh you forgot the most important rule in software developing: "Better steal a good system than create a bad one."
point is my focus is pvp to do pvp well you need a focussed spec, but I like to do PVE as well for story line missions and I enjoy those, but I cannot get any challenge out of them in the current game because it is faceroll or just die on the ground.
In WoW back in the days it cost me 50g to change specs that was a bit annoying but workable, here it cost me RL money or weeks of playing to get a single respec. which means I am stuck with one spec which ruins a part of the game for me because pvp Always required focus in any game there is.

you cant please everyone all the time.
so you picked space and prefer to play to that strength...good.
cryptic has said from day one that this is ground and space combined. as a player, you know it, or at least should by now.
knowing your weaker on the ground does not mean that the model needs to change. it means you need to accept you spent your points in space rather then ground (for whatever reason), and move on.
but ill argue this for you. if they adjusted it so you could alter ground and pace difficulties, then ALL drops (loot, whatever) will be cnditional on your lowest setting. i.e.: if space is elite, but ground is normal, then ALL drops will be equal and no higher then "normal" drops, even in space.

why if i do space at hard I get space focussed drops from mobs and on ground i get ground focussed mobs.
however i would agree mission rewards in the end should be based at the lowest setting.

Yes, and both are playable. I get past both parts. One is easier than the other for me, by default. No points spent ANYWHERE, I trash Space on Normal, and get by on ground.

How about this? The Model Did Change. It was called the addition of the Difficulty Slider. Since the model can change, why not go the extra 2 inches?

I highly doubt Loot drops are tied to difficulty. I have yet to pull anything better than the standard garbage I got before. I've pulled ONE good thing. And that was a Blue EPS console at Lt Cmdr level, before the Difficulty slider came into existance.

i still say ALL drops.
you desire to ease thru ground becuase you spent all your skills in space. the drawback to you wanting to have different sliders would be ALL drops are based on lowest setting. not just end results.
i dont even think end rewards are based on setting as it is. i think we all get offerd the same rewards for mission completion regardless. (ie.e doomsday, you get a list to choose from, and i think we all get offered the same list)

i cannot quote it, but i remember reading somewhere that drops would be better based on setting. not sure about odds of them dropping better loot, but it was mentioned.
gosh the pvers do not like the pvpers getting some fancy stuff to now that is one old mmo story.
anyway drops are not my concern realy i play the story mission for the story thats it. Also when I level all I do is pvp/story mission/sector defence
lmao.
i never differed from pvp or pve.
you should not put words on the forum that were never there.
i said as a drawback to wanting differing levels of difficulty on ground and space, the result and detriment should be that all loot is based on the lower setting.
as a pvper, you already get badges for gear aimed more at the pvp crowd then the pve crowd, so i am not certain where you think i was infering anything other then what i said.

After you zone out, you have wait 15 minutes for the instance to reset. Then, when you zone in again, it'll take to your new difficulty setting. Though, I was under the impression that straight-out dropping the mission also worked -- at least, I've done it before.
There's probably some other trickery you can do to speed up the reset that involves forming or joining a team.
As for a separate slider, I really can't agree. I think it would be better if they just fixed the OP weapons that various races use. On elite, it's almost impossible to beat them on open ground where there's no cover or choke points. In bases or caves, however...

Before you respond take some time to visit your bridge and sit in your captain's chair while you mull over the ramifications of my statement.
