Has anyone else noticed people just camping out in instances and not fighting at all. I have seen it a lot lately. Does anyone else think it is a good idea to either:
A. Have it so if you stay in the spawn without doing anything for X minutes you get removed from the instance
OR
B. Have a option to let all the players in a instance vote to remove a player if we notice them "cheating".
Any input you guys can give would be great (especially to get the DEVs attention on this).
I don't think you can sit and do nothing completely and get credit. I went AFK on one and came back to find my counter on the do 3 was still the same. I think they have to at least fight one ship.
Now, as for the rest on the campers who do that one ship then sit, yes, I agree with you that they should be kicked out. Only the timer thing might cause a problem because during the 5 minute cooldown, I know a lot have sat waiting for that clock to go down. I don't see a problem with those who do that during the cooldown and Cryptic would need to find a way not to hit them with auto-kick.
I can confirm this. I do it all the time. Usually when I have to multitask on something like homework.
How to do it:
Go in a defense mission! Move every several minutes just a bit to not go afk. Usually I participate in at least one battle however I just fly into a group of enemies already engaged with allies and attack, then just go afk anyways (just to look like I'm doing something!).
The rewards are often slow but really, when I have work to do and feel like some STO why not?
Where's the [face_devil] when you need him?
Heck, I've been doing this since Closed Beta. Not too much tough... Probably like 20 times.
Yep, people have been doing this right along, what's worse is the guys that join in missions and sit there while you do all the work. It didn't take long before I turned off the grouping which is a pity since I actually enjoyed it more when we were fighting together.
If only they had some sort of anti-afk tech in DSE's. Like a group of impossible, mean and very tough ships. Like an ENEMY FLAGSHIP and a bunch of his buddies. Who'll come into a zone you're drifting in and hunt you down and dispatch you to the respawn point.

Thanks.
Ive heard of this happening in fleet actions. Like the one where you have to kill a number of different ship types then all get together to kill a Dreadnaught thats sitting either in a minefield or a place with a lot of turrets, and people havea tendancy to just swarm the area where the dreadnaught is and wait for it to respawn
People been leeching DSEs since Closed Beta. I still remember people mentioning on the forum back then. That's partially why those entrance mobs were added and why the Enemy Flagship wanders towards it before the reset time. So that anyone who went AFK was going to be attacked.
Of course these people persisted. I once confronted 2 leechers and said, "It would go faster if you actually killed them", and one of them started cursing on zone chat.
Now while DSE's are the most common type of leecher, with Fleet Actions a second. But Borg Hunt and PvP has those same types of people as well. They just sit there waiting to get the credit while others do the work.
So the Dev Team needs to come up with somekind of participation credit.
Just ****es me off when it is only me and another guy in a defense and I end up killing everything. Whilst on the way to 10 I will die once or twice and the dude just sits there. WIsh I could blow him up at that point. Many times I will switch instances just to leave the guy hanging.
An easy way to prevent leechers is to do it the way you get XP for kills. If you didn't significantly impact the death of the Enemy, you don't get points. So to get a squad kill, you must significantly impact its death. This would make the squads killed meter tied to individual players rather than the instance itself, but I don't think that's a problem (its more of problem to enter a DSE [sometimes one that hunted you down] just to find the timer is 5 minutes to reset [really, how can one hunt me down when there's no enemies there?]).
Another thing I'd like to be added: XP for healing. I was in a Borg DSE the other day and I was the only non escort there (I was a cruiser). Even one of those guys could kill a Cube faster than I could do damage to it for anything more than 2 XP. And you know what? I often used my heals (I have 4 that can target allies) on them (a lot of them were really stupid, they took a lot of damage that could have been avoided, and more than a few of them decided to hang around cubes while they exploded, dieing in the process).
In essence, I wasn't damaging as much as I was healing (my cruiser is mainly specced for Damage with Tanking abilities [a few of which are also self and ally targetable]) but I don't get any reward for that [many of those escorts were able to continue onto the next squad because of my healing]. I know, if I want to get XP, I should have not healed, but Im a team player, I cant help but help people if they need it. So there should be XP for healing.

Yes, youre alwas going to have people like this; out to exploit the game mechanics
