Ship Destruction Animation

I know it might be a whole heap of work for not much reward but I am bored of seeing ships exploding. Even if its just scripted pve fight for story missions buts can ships actually blow apart instead of just blowing up?

it would be epic if they could add something to the animations like this fight

failing that even if the damaged hull of the ships just floats around in space leaking plasma and bits missing. The borg cube is an excellent example of this as instead of just exploding two large fragments of the cube just drift around for a bit.

    Actually, that's a neat idea.

    often just before you ship blows it also tends to do a cool rotating motion whilst on fire. be nice if sometimes it was just left like that without the core going.

    Yes! I'd like to see the core explosion to occur like half the time when a ship is destroyed.

    maybe (and this might be tricky as its a online game and everyone would have different settings) but many people hate the fact the federation blows up ships left right and centre instead of being disabled. perhaps you can set an option so that you can either not have any ships blow up, so you can pretend they are just disabled or set it so that the explosion is random so like you say it only goes about half the time.

    or what would be the coolest thing is if the ship splits in half like the breen ship from the video above. that would be such an awesome affect to see some romulan war bird split in two and watch the pieces float away.

    even if its just a story episode that is scripted so it always happens to save them having to redesign the destruction sequence or every ship.

    During the Dominion War they didn't hold back, don't see why they shouldn't now. The Klingons aren't going to give up their war because we keep leaving their ships in tact.. quite the opposite really.

    true but many people just want the feds to leave the other ships alive. its just individual players personal taste.

    there are other races, say with the romulans, that we are not at actual war with. picard might have a scuffle with the romulans or the cardassians in TNG but he did not blow them up.

    also not every ship actually blows up. thats why i posted that video as its several ships either splitting into pieces or just drifting.

    the role-play side or ethics dont concern me, i really just want cooler animations.

    or leave them as drifting wrecks, along with pieces of wrecks

    It's a nice idea. You could even have parts flying towards your ship, like here.

    I agree with changing the ship explosion effects. I never really did like how the ship just faded away and a plume of orange smoke showed up.

    Something that has always bothered me; why is it when you have a ship barreling towards you, you destroy it, and it simply stops while it explodes? shouldn't it be still drifting in its forward direction? Wouldn't that be a lot cooler?

    Not to mention the possible strategies one could implement. Imagine taking out a ship and watch it slam into another ship while on fire. Epic battles would be more epic.

    Another thing that could be implemented is that when your ship is destroyed, your screen goes blank or becomes full of static, except for the Respawn window. After all, if your ship's destroyed, should whatever feed is showing your ship go out too?

    The implemented physx engine could do this, like in the old STO Trailer.
