curious about the future

being a lifetime member i was interested in seeing the 2.0 come out this month. wasn't much reason for me to login recently since there hasn't been many updates lately. i'm thinking this game will probably become free to play sooner then later since the free to play developers usually develop just as slowly as this 2.0 is taking to actually be released live.

this combined with the lackluster passion for bug fixes makes me wonder where this game is going. am i the only one who wonders about this?

the reason i'm adding this post is i was absolutely sure the calendar just a couple of days ago said it would have 2.0 released today the 15th....i log into the site today only to find the whole calendar changed to 2.0 being 15th - 31st and not just that but it seems it might not be all of the features they were promising in the earlier calendar just a couple of days ago. It's advertising some instances no less.

this isn't really a rant just a concern about what these developers are doing so late in this games beginning. hmmm. if they make it free to play that would be fine with me im doing ddo right now and i look forward to LOTRO free to play that will be nice cause i love that game. I think it would probably be better for cryptic if they would just use that model since people usually pay the monthly fee either for the more hardcore content or for the more hardcore games and i don't see this game as hardcore i see it as very casual.

it's fun but when you've leveled 4 toons to RA and you have pretty much equiped them all very well the only thing left to do is instance runs or pvp and pvp on this game is really tedious imo.

just wondered if anyone else has noticed these things.

Well for starters, I think most people who play this think about the future of the game, I sure I know I have. 2.0 seems like a step in the right direction, as for the release dates....you have to remember the calendar is tentative at best, those dates are not set in stone. I'd rather see more time on test to be sure that when it's released at the end of the month, it wont be quite as buggy.

Pretty much all the features that they said would be in 2.0 are going to be in...the big question was interiors was looking like it might not, but it looks like they will be putting it on test this weekend so, there is a chance that it might make it....if not.....im sure it will be very soon after.

As for F2P, I don't think this game will be going that model anytime soon. DStahl has said that he could see it eventually happening in some kind of hybrid form, but I think they want to see how the business model for LOTR goes first, so you would expect a min of 6months at the earliest if it was going to happen and most likely a year+.

Personally I'm not a fan of F2P games, but what ever happens....happens. I love the Star Trek Universe and as long as the game seems to be heading into the right direction, I plan on playing.

I'd much rather that the Dev's push back the release date if they feel something isn't working than just put it out there and fix it on the fly later. It sucks waiting, but I don't mind if it means the stuff I'm getting is more stable.
