So there's a competition that acts as a good advert for STO. Problem is they're paying some marketing agency big fees again (remember the council members decision being outsourced), when they could have just used the inhouse web designer to do something simple and effective. Meanwhile we're being told that ships that are free at the current rank (not the skins) will be charged for at the next.
I'm all for them buying the mini games and Leeta voice acting, and understand that some measures work better than others to entice new players, but if money is tight why is this happening at our expense? This is a backwards move for existing players, we're paying for it if you buy those ships. Shouldn't Atari pay for it's own extra advertising if they think it is going to pay off, or do we now take that risk now in return for reduced game functionality for the sub price?
Maybe they make more from the ships than this is costing, but that isn't the principle, and this is an extravagance. I want new players, but is the remaining player base so loyal that they can be used and abused, or do we still kick up enough of a fuss? This is probably isn't Stahl and his direct team's decision, I understand he is trying to make it so the ships might be earned also, but when we've showed our discontent on similar issues they have had to concede.
Please show your support in this thread to back Stahl's endeavor. Thanks

could it be that marketing has a diffrent budget then the dev team no one knows anything about the inner workings of cryptic iam sure we can dig it up somewhere ... but as of now no one knows
Yes, its called a monthly fee.
You pay Cryptic $15 a month or so, they create new content for us to use. Ppl are acting like this is a free game or something...
Im starting to agree with whoever said that this game seems to be heading towards the DDO model but instead ofa free baseline, having a $15 a month baseline

yeah starting to look like the 15bucks a month is beeing used for everything else but game development...

hey that's not fair.. Jack Emmert needs a yacht, John Needham needs a plane, don't forget Zinc's goat, and all of those take a lot of money to maintain.
Yea it's called 15 bucks a month or paying with merits.
I agree... I'd like to get SOME kinda of cool ships as part of my $15/mth.
I'm all for the C-Store as a secondary source of income for SELECT items. I don't think it'd be fair to have all iconic ships only up on the C-Store. Let us choose to buy them with merits as well plz.

my question is why are CANON ships being left out of the game that is based on the CANON that are from?
Why the C-Store will always be a major focus . . . because Cryptic knows Trek fans will pay extra for even the most trivial of trek baubles. My prediction for when Ship Interiors go live . . . all the neat little items used to decorate your quarters and ready rooms will be C-store items.
Why ST:O will never go F2P + micro transactions . . . one of the biggest incentives for a MMO to go F2P is dwindling population. But, with ST:O, even if there were only 5 people left playing there would be little incentive to stimulate a population surge with free accounts since ST:O is, in essence, a single player game played alongside other players. If tomorow, for instance, all log ins were disabled except for mine, I wonder how long it would take me to notice I was the only person logged in.
With such a focus on C-store transactions as well as monthly fees, I'd feel a lot more appreciated as a paying customer if my monthly fee awared me a few, free C-points each month. Nothing major, just a little kickback that I could save up over my paid time to cash in on a small item from time to time.

DOMT nailed it in one. Subscription fees.
I don't mind paying for "special" ships (galx,ret-defiant), but simple new additions to the standard line within a faction should just be added straight to the game so I can select them like any other.
Now per character highly priced c-store additions on the back of this and all the rest. How much are we remaining players willing to put with? We really need some united action. Maybe some of the veterans here can work together to create a thread that isn't sent offtopic immediately or hijacked.

As Ive said a few times, we are all pretty much outnumbered 1000 to one by the people that dont read the forums and have the money to shell out for hundreds of dollars worth of pixels, and about 500 to one by the ones with the money to buy pixels that still come here and scream about it.
and still...

Uh, yeah, it's called my monthly sub fee.
Some of us expect to get something of substantive value when we pay for it.

Stahl said the DDO possibility.
yeah, exactly. Season 2 on tribble actually stopped me from quitting.

Supposedly not... look at this thread

Specifically what Miiru said. Thats NOT what they were talking about

yea because he made enough off of the galaxy-x to feed his goat, and family for a few years.
I do, I've supported that since they announced the MT's

Also, I understand what you mean.
