I So it's not so much polygon budgets, or data budgets, but I'd say that it's mostly because our team is shrinking, and we still have to continue to put out a lot of other content for the future, that it will be really hard for me to get the political pull to get a couple programmers, an FX guy, and myself a couple weeks to make new models for this cause.
Why is Cryptic already shrinking their teams working on STO? Is it going to be left with a skeleton crew? They're already working on a new game/MMO, but surely they should be concentrating and consolidating their teams and improving and expanding their already existing games...
Other MMO companies manage to make a good solid job out of making a single MMO, and maybe, money allowing, a few other games. Maybe money is shallow in their pockets over there in Cryptic HQ, and if that's the case, I'll work for you guys for free if that's what it takes.
I know that I posting this will not stop your CEO from their big plans, but I still wanted to vent my feelings. Cryptic, you did some great games in the past,
but remember, MMO's aren't just for Christmas, they take a lot of care and attention, not just getting on its feet and walking off to find the next big thing. You've got something special here, and with Champions, don't let it slide, please
PS, to any Devs that may read this, I do not mean in any way to belittle your work that you're doing, I know almost first hand how hard it is to work on games, and what you have done is nothing to be scrapped, I just don't want to see you guys being shrank and diverted to other projects, when you have two ace MMOs already out there and begging for some love and attention.

I have the feeling of out of context but thats a knee-jerk
This quote specifically:
"I So it's not so much polygon budgets, or data budgets, but I'd say that it's mostly because our team is shrinking, and we still have to continue to put out a lot of other content for the future, that it will be really hard for me to get the political pull to get a couple programmers, an FX guy, and myself a couple weeks to make new models for this cause. yes, I'd like to know as well.
Essentially, the teams is working on other stuff - so the number of people that can work with Capnlogan on ships shrinks as they move on to other parts of STO.
Anyway, link to where I got my quotes from;

First post, 2nd last quote.
I'll see if I can find the original quote.
Explains why there havent been any more posts from the OP in this thread I guess.
Seems like they're just shifting personnel from 1 dept to another, but they're all still working on STO
Hopefully they've moved to other parts of STO, but, their main company website was advertising a short while back for employees to work on a new MMO for them.
I'd like to know as well, since it was claimed that STO was going to be keeping stable at roughly pre-launch levels and people quitting to go work on other things would get replacements hired.
I guess the numbers haven't stayed as good as was originally claimed. Not that I'm surprised.
From what I understand, Cryptic organizes into development "pods" or small groups.
I suspect people are being pulled from one pod to another (i.e. shifting gears toward Season 2.X & 3.X)
This could be likely.
Having 2-4 developers on a single set of tech for a week seems a bit too costly.
We'd all like perfect ablative armor but at what cost? having 3-4 devs that could work on other things?
Anyway, to those who didn't see my link the full post;
A friend told me theyre working on yet another MMO already. Given that its not a huge surprise if it WAS shrinking.

i raised an eyebrow reading this...
but i didn't say anything because
i think he did probably mean the STO Shipteam that was 3 people before and now is 2 (because one was re-assigned to do costumes).
Maybe he just meant Gozer and Zinc leaving?
Maybe he let something slip that he wasnt supposed to, but thats a big maybe...
i'm not ready to cry DOOOOM just yet.
//edit: jeez you guys are fast... page 2 allready? XD
Champs has had some solid advancements since launch. It's quite good, imo.
of course... they are AGILE
Im not shouting DOOOOOOM but two of the devs leaving, rumors of a new mmo, well I hope this MMO is doing really well (despite what the forums say) because that would start to worry me
Since when would that influence a forum population? lol
Bender, please do the honors!
I hope it doesn't sound like a doom thread, at least not TOO much, I tried my best to stay away from too much unfounded "IT's the end, everything will go to pot because of this!!!" Maybe you're right and it's just a teeny 3 down to 2 because one guy is assigned to costumes, but we probably won't know, maybe they can tell us, maybe they can't, maybe they would, but are terrified because someone like me will post calls for pitch forks and a burning at the steak because they won't like that they hear...
Oooh, I may pay it a visit then, I've been toying with going back to Champions for a month.
My bet is somewhere between a Zombie and a Borg attack... maybe a Zombie Borg attacking them?
And in the End... the more games use this Engine the more features we will get into STO.
Accolade System and Sidekicking are Copy jobs from CO for example, they just had to make the Tech go for STO but the idea wasn't a new one.
So if game and team nr. 3 comes into play they will have new requirements again which then will end up in giving new ideas to STO and CO.
That is how they work, and that is good for us because the Engine will evolve over time instead of beeing stuck in one place and outdated by the next one that comes along.
So Game nr. 3 is of no concerne for us realy.
If the start firing people because STO is doing bad.... THAT would be concerning, but that little quote could pretty much mean anything.
It still raises an Eyebrow.
If I were a dev, I'd push for a Borg vs. Survivor maze map (with hazards) - ala Left 4 Dead meets STO.
That'd be a quick an easy job - if they could analyze how it works over at Champions down the hall.
That's the funny thing... while I have no interest in returning to CO at the moment, I don't bitterly regret buying it like I'm starting to with STO.
If so, is the complaint more about meta-game stuff (c-store, etc.) than the game itself?
Ignoring the c-store, there's still a good game (especially with Season 2's welcome changes)
implying they are still LOSING members. as in ongoing loss.
and the losses arent stopping.
That's not really what's being implied. It may very well be that resources are being pulled to work on the updates in 2.0 and ablative armor isn't exactly a top priority item.
