Is anyone having trouble logging into the game? I either get the trying to update launcher window or if the launcher does come up it just sticks at Connecting..... is anyone else having this problem?
Same here, Auto-Update window open and keeps trying to connect with no success... It opened up the launcher once and then when signed in it got stuck on trying to connect.
Com'on Cryptic, wheres your emergency Tech Suuport guys or whatever you might call them!?
I'm getting the same. I'd been on earlier but now all i get is the launcher screen and just says connecting....
I've opened a tech support ticket, but not sure what they'll do
Had to close it down and open it again for 8 times, seems their server is taking a severe beating. Also noticed that Tribble is still down, wonder what's up?
After I posted this earlier I kept trying and finally got it, now I dont seem to be having any problems, however many still are, it seems like another one of these crazy hit or miss issues, like the one a few months back where the launcher was crashing internet connections while updating for many players, while many more could get on just fine. I hope this is resolved for everyone!
Well I just installed Subscribed you know the usual and all I get is the classic "trying to update the launcher please be patient" I dont even get a "tried so many times" Just sits there in the top left corner. Was really looking forwad to this too !
with out more information hard to say on the problem. I just patched and logged in without problems.
things tio check and confirm
1. your firewaa/antivirs program have not reflagged the patch game as requiring authorization.
2. ports 7000-7500 are still open and unfiltered
3. there is not a problem with IE browser
a. it is not set to work offline
b. it has not been set to use a proxy
c. it actually works when you use it to brows
4. check task manager and make sure no other instance of STO is running.
5. if using vista and win7 besure launcher is set to run as admin

For good connections, column 1 and 3 have values around 500 kb/sec (outgoing/incoming), column 2 has values around 20 kb/sec (transfer rate). If the values in these columns is less than what is expected you may have filtering or blocked ports either on your personal network or from your ISP.
don't just say they are good post the actual results (right click on window title bar select edit mark then highlight and hit neter to copy to clipboard)
I have been trying all day --- all i get is the white page saying loading. please wait -- have uninstalled and re installed and done everything i know to get in. I am still unable to get in and upset I cant play. Can anyone help out a newbie here on this problem -- it would be appreciated -- much thanks -- Heidi
the white page staying usually is caused by the launcher unable to connect to the server.
usually causes are
the launcher is being blocked by the firewall or antiirus programs
the launcher is not running at admin on win7 and vista systems
the ports 7000-7500 are being blocked. by firewall/antivirus, router, ISP (or in cases of univeristy networks, the univeristy firewall)
There is a problem with IE even if you use a different browser IE is used by the launcher. if IE does not work then the launcher does not work.
IE is set to work offline
lan settings for IE is set to use a proxy
IE is just broke and need reinstall or upgrade.

I've tried everything to try to get my launcher to work but nothing works I dont think my Internet explorer is working or something of the sort, would firefox be the cause? but its really makeing me mad, it says loading, please wait then it goes white, then it says "The program cannot display the web page" and now my internet explorer doesn't work at all!!
the launcher uses componets of internet explorer even if you are using other browser as your default. so if IE doesnt work the launcher will not work. You may have to update IE or reinstall it. to fix it. (or use hijackthis and see if some pluging or other thing has taken over your IE.)
I ran through all the checks on the firewall and router, and ran the nettest.exe file. I've also checked the IE8 settings, and tried this all after reinstalling it (and before).

you nettest indicates the ports are being throttled or filtered . it could be your ISP or something on your network setup. if you are less than 250 in column 1 and 3 and less than 13 on column 2 you are more likely to have severe lag and disconnects.
can you provide more information on your network setup. wire or wireless, nic card and driver version, modem/router model and version. ISP. provide the results of the tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com
Start the Launcher, starts to patch, before the patch begins, the launcher goes into Not Responding. Reinstalling has done nothing, setting it to run as Admin has done nothing. I'm running it on Vista 64. NetTest came up with 250kb/s on all jumps with the exception of one that was 160.
It will say "Launcher Version ST.1.20100.519.C, then three dots slowly..., the dots will cycle for a few seconds, then the launcher locks up.

The throttling would be weird considering I'm in Korea... where they love MMOs. I'll run it through pingplotter, thanks for the address to run a path test on. If it's an ISP issue I'll know where to go. I'd guessed with three threads open about it there could be something on Cryptic's end. Just off 30 seconds I'm seeing about a 15% total route packet loss though with a 100% packet loss after 38.104.187.150 which isn't turning up a DNS name entry and stops the transmission completely.
Hi I'm new to this game and havent actually played it yet. Finished my download but my login box is just a screen offering a patch which has frozen at 0.7% (it took 2 hours to get that far) Is this how it's supposed to be?

May I ask your ISP? My ISP is SK Broadband and I played STO since open beta without any launcher problem.
But, suddenly my launcher was not working since 3-4 days ago.
My ISP is KCN here in Korea. They've been pretty good for the last year. The last time I had problems was around this same time.
I also figured out the problem with my connection. I was using OpenDNS for name server resoution since the Korean backbone was having some problems resolving a few U.S. addresses. Once I completely removed my DNS forwarders from my router and my DNS server on my domain the issue resolved.

At this point I'd just prefer a refund.
