Dual Spec...

With all the ships in this game and the different loadouts for each, I think it's high time you give us two swapable skill specs so that as we switch out our ships for a given situation, we don't have to go retrain everytime. Make it so Numbah One!

I disagree. Nothing of this sort would ever be good for STO. It may seem like it's fun for us players, but basically it decreases the need and desire to create more characters which in general isn't good for STO from Cryptic's point of view. If they'd ever do this, it'd be like cutting the branch they're sitting on. Sorry. :(

Not to mention that our Captains being able to switch ships from Cruiser to Escort etc, is already somewhat canon-bending, if not breaking canon outright.

Dual Spec is just not Star Trek. With no new skills coming you will have all the ponits you need for another ship. A level 60 will be able to have two ships easy with no repec.

Second that. Taking a look at the skill trees, the available points and the whole game/combat systems, making dual-specs would be useless if even gamebraking. With the new level cap on the horizon you can spend as much as 72.700 points on your skills. Take a look at this skill planner:
    http://sto-intel.org/skills/
There you can already asign this amount of points. The first players already stated they'd basicly even run out of skills to put points in. Right now you can easily max out four T5 skills, which also means you could spec for exampe a Fleet Escort and a Defiant Refit and switch between them, while still being able to max out Antiproton Weapons and Weapon Performance for maximum damage.

The only new skills for the moment are those for the new Refit ships.

Why is it needed? Can't you fly multiple ships now as any type of captain?

Of course you can, one at a time. However, STO is built around our Captain Skills providing bonuses and efficiency to our Captains' and Bridge Officers' abilities, so in essence, with some ships you'd be more efficient than with others. The same goes for Captain kits. A dual-spec with more skill points across both specs would simply allow people to 9-9-9 everything they want and be.... awesome.

I'm against duel-spec then. I say make an alt if a player wants to do tactical and science, etc.

Oh I definitely agree. However, since STO doesn't have too many classes/roles etc, I definitely see a need for Cryptic to put in STO different tools we can use to make ground combat less role-restrictive/focused, especially in 5-man groups, this doesn't mean I want dual-spec though, but I would highly appreciate being able to craft our own Kits the way we can combine our BO's abilities to form a capable build.

I have nothing against custom-kit crafting at all, as an idea.
