I'd like the saucer separation, i am not sure what the ablative generator does, but it sounds interesting. But to give EVERY Fed Player access to cloaking devices with a defiant is NONSENSE.
how they suppose PvP will work after that? What sense is there in playing a klingon, when it's just a different costume for a Fed? There was exactly one defiant with cloaking device in the series, i don't care about 'canon' or not - it will just ruin the game for everyone.
Cryptic has to seriously do somethings for the Klings!!!
STOP CLOAKING FOR ALL FEDS!
Regards
Mary L. Drake
(btw. i don't play klingons)
*laugh* and the cycle of forums continues.... x complain because its not there and when it gets implemented y doesn't like it. TO be honest as long as cloaking is restricted to 2 ships then let them have their fun. IF you don't PVP then access to the tech won't bother you And how exactly does it ruin the game?

STOP CLOAKING FOR ALL FEDS!
Every T5 Defiant Owner = some RA's, mostly Tac's but its != ALL FEDS!
As for the rest, Saucer Separation is (eh)
Cloak is cool, and the Defiant did have a cloak. As well the only reason the Feds didn't work on one is because of treaties with the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Empire. The Klingon Empire is at war with the Federation, and the Romulan Empire has fallen apart.
Ablative Armor is used to keep Borg from hitting you, it is armor that is supposed to make you invulnerable. Not sure how it works in the game, but I would be more upset with that then a cloaking device.
Eh, I have always wondered how it is that Klingons can wander around sectors with lots of cloaking ships and not run into each other. That said nothing 'needs' to be done right now. Lets get them into tribble and see how the PVP wonks roll with it. It might actually make people start using cloaking debuffs more for example.

I assume the Intrepid armor has a resistance to antiproton and maybe to tractor beams as well. The armor was designed to combat the Borg so I can assume its meant to counter specifically their strengths.

Yea, KDF have had the advantage in PVP for far to long, I see this a good thing, will force some balance and also involve more creative thinking.

Borg don't use AP, never have. Borg use Plasma weapons, both for Torps and Beams. This was how it was during the series and in STO. So maybe an increase in resistance vs Plasma?
Undine use AP

PS. love the TARDIS
Huh I must be remembering Borg weapons from one of the novels then, or maybe its that the Borg are more vulnerable to it.... But as I think about it you are right, and as such I would tend to agree, the principle stays the same, just the damage type changes
Somehow, I don't see that happening for every Fed ship. If any ship class is ever equipped with a cloak, then it will likely be the Escorts, with the Gal-X being the lone exception. But outside the T5 Defiant, even the Escorts are unlikely to recieve a cloaking ability.
Other than that, I'll scream bloody heck if - big if - and when they implement cloaks for Feds, and only because I do not think the Feds need it.

Hence why it might actually make having science abilities to debuff cloak more valuable. It might also encourage a variety of ship types/fits in the pvp field so that you have more of a 'caster' 'fighter' 'cleric' mix rather then everyone using the heaviest brick they can.
No you had it right to what I was thinking, the concept for ablative technology (in modern day Real Life) if the concept of storing energy and releasing it, as mentioned in the article. Usually the same amount of energy is released around ablative component (it was developed for troops and tanks in high heat environments). But the principle is the same whether you refer to it as a generator or armor. But my concern is thus, if I may quote one of your links:
The ablative generator was designed to protect starships by generating a nearly inpenetrable hull armor, which was deployed from the externally mounted generators, that when deployed expanded across the ship's hull.
This would be (IMO) a bigger balance issue then cloak. Although it does fit with an Intrepid class as Voyager was the one to utilize it.

My fleet is experimenting with various group structures for maximum efficiency.
The instant that someone announced an Trek MMO with ship combat in the game, you were going to have cloaking Defiants. Sorry, but there was no way this was going to be stopped. That saucer has long ago separated.
Now, keeping it on Defiants* shouldn't be a problem. There's no reason for it to be on any other Fred ship class. And that is only one class. However, because it has two Commander BOff slots, I can see it being the Fed ship of choice for PvP. So Klinks might see it a lot more often, admittedly. That'll turn most battles into hide-and-seek with bazookas. Kinda like modern naval submarine combat. Anyone ever see 'Balance of Terror?'
* - I don't count the Galaxy-X's. These are not easy ships to fly to victory in, and since they really are still kind of rare, you won't find a lot of people who can fly them well. From what I gather, they're still pretty much 'USS Torpedo Bait.'
Frankly, I do not think adding a limited number of cloakable fed ships is going to destroy the game. Much like the gal-x has already shown, they are working to balance the ships to make the trade off for cloaking balance out against the raw firepower of a non cloaking ship. And frankly, anything that forces some tactical diversity into both PVP and PVE, as cloaking does, is only adding to the fun of devising new tactics to fight and defend from it on both sides.
And ill bet that using ablative armor as an alternative to shields wont be a game breaker either. as I am sure it will be great against somethings, but weak to others, just like shields are now.
The more tacticaal diversity a game like this gets the better. Anything to keep the devs moving in an expansive direction and not dumbing the game down, like WoW is doing, is a good thing.
As far as staying true to the story of line of star trek, given that we are already into the time period suggested by the future presented in All Good Things... (and its open use of Federation cloaking devices), the destruction of the Romulan Empire into its quarreling sub groups and the new Klingon War render the The Treay of Algeron null and void anyway. So there is no reason the feds can't start using the Cloak in order to counter the advantages of the MANY other races that use and abuse it.
Stupid, just stupid.
As a fed when i wanted to experience the cloak i , you know, played a Klingon. Silly me, i should have whined till they gave me it on my Fed ship.
why not go the whole way and give the fed escorts universal BO stations, and hey, give them a carrier as well.
What was the point of having Klingon's as a separate faction again? not a lot now.
I play both Fed and Klingon and liked them both. i played Klingon so i could play with the different toys, as i say, not so much reason to now.

The cloak doesn't bother me, and the two Cdr. slots also do not bother me in and of themselves, and these things together do not bother me.....
What bothers me is that while I loved my Defiant, I like my Gryphon class much much more, and would prefer it not become obsolete.

Guess we can just forget about that "whole different storyline" thing or "almost every ship has cloak" (versus the Fed's two cloaking ships). Yep, we can just gloss over those facts, because they're unimportant

Also the differing unique species, design language, battle cloak, and universal BoP BO slots, and in general the different feel to Klingon ship types form Fed ship types.
Ablative armor generator is not anti-borg tech at all, bust just an evolution of the Ablative armor technology first used by the U.S.S Defiant.
Janeway's SC-4 shuttle withstood the attack of a Neghvar battleship.
Its clearly not just anti-borg.
I also hope its not quiiite so powerful in-game
I bet you alot of people will try it out because it looks cool though, providing they did the VFX right.

Oh snap! How could I forget those "unimportant" facts too?
Every fed and his dog will either be in a GX or a defiant.
Mark my words
Because everyone wants to spend $20 on a ship (or refer five "friends" to the game) or be stuck in an Escort with lesser shields or hull than a Cruiser or Sci vessel, because that non-Battle Cloak will make all the difference
Sigh, while you slap yourself on the back for pointing out the differences between the Feds and Klingon's, please notice i did say, NOT SO MUCH point in playing a Klingon, for me. i did not say they was the same in every way now did i? more the slippery slope argument, but whatever, i was giving my thoughts on this as I'm entitled to in a public forum.
Jesus this topic will be blown out of proportion. 2 ships having a cloak (not battle cloak) is not the end of the world. Most feds are Engineer and Science anyways. I see more cruisers and DSVs in space than escorts all with their happy yellow or blue badges.
Just like the caitians and MU uniforms, the Galaxy X and cloaking defiant will lose its luster and taper off in number fairly quickly. Once people realize a cloak is not an "I win" button they will return to the familiar that has served them well in the past.

Quoting directly from the first post....
Definitely not me. I am cruiser pilot. If cruisers get cloaks then fine (no I dont own the X, sadly. 25 bucks is just too much right now), but I will only be in an escort to goof around on an alt.

Ablative Armor at Memory Alpha. You might be thinking of the ablative generators from "Endgame," which may or may not be related.
Klingons can cloak
Now Cryptic is going to give Feds abillity to cloak before Romulans (who can also cloak) come out?
I can just imagine PvP-- just like submarine warfare, no one is willing to fire the first shot, just a waiting game!
Certainly sounds like what Romulan vs Klingon PvP would end up being.

Not this Fed, trust me.
They're probably nothing.
I mean, who could possibly call any of that unique or interesting?
I will be in an intrepid for a little while providing the ablative armor looks like it does in the show, and has the VFX and everything.
Then its back to my Gryphon class assuming its not made totally obsolete.
