Lately there has been much talk about a Cryptic run fleet ladder, where the best fleets can climb to the top. However, there has been very little talk of implementing other than "we would like to". This would result in an exceptionally long waiting time and is simply unacceptable. So, I bring to you, the player run pvp ladder.
This is just an idea, first draft, proposal, but someone needs to get the ball rolling if we want to save pvp in this game.The Ladder:
Fleets will be able to compete against one another in fleets to rise to the top of the ladder in both ranked and unranked competition. To participate in ranked competition, at least 4 members of a team must be in the same fleet - on both sides. This is to allow for accurate tracking of fleet stats. Unranked competition however, will not have this team requirement because of it's unranked nature.
Additionally, use of the "OrganizedPvP" channel can be used to determine who is playing at any given moment. participants are encouraged to join the channel and chat ~channel name subject to change.Rules:
- In the nature of pvp, no skills are banned.
- Exploiting will be used in the strictest sense of the word, if you believe someone is cheating, file a complaint.
- barring extraneous circumstances, leaving a match will result in a match loss.
- No smurf fleets or ladder manipulation is allowed.
- be polite, courteous, and play your hardest.
- The burden of proof falls on the victor, the victor must provide an endgame scoreboard screenshot and the names of both fleets participating together.
penalties:
- Failure to adhere to the basic rules guidelines will result in either fleet suspension, point penalty, or complete removal from the ladder.
- Largely due to self policing, the potential for abuse would be high.
Format:Unranked pvp:
- Teams will qeue in the THIRD arena pvp qeue when interested in team vs team unranked pvp.
- Teams are required to bring all FIVE party members, so as not to FUBAR the qeueing system.
Ranked pvp:
- Teams will qeue in the SECOND arena pvp qeue when interested in team vs team ranked pvp.
- Teams are required to bring all FIVE party members, so as not to FUBAR the qeueing system.
- Additionally, at least FOUR of your team members must be in the same fleet; failure to conform to this standard will result in penalties for ladder manipulation.
Ranking system:
- new fleets will begin with a ranking of 100 points.
- The maximum score is 150 points, the minimum score is 50 points (this is subject to change).
- Based on the ratings differences, the following point exchanges will occur:
~ ## point difference || number of points exchanged if the higher ranked fleet wins || number of points exchanged if the lower ranked fleet wins
~ 0-10 points || 2/2
~ 11-25 points || 1/2
~ 26-50 points || 1/3
~ 51+ points || 0/3
Registering points:
When turning in points, please follow the following format:
- 1. name both fleets participating
- 2. name the fleet that wins
- 3. provide a link with a screenshot (host it on imageshack.us or photobucket)
registration may be challenged if incorrect fleetnames/bad screenshots are provided.Ladder:
rank || fleet || rating || last match date
- Example fleet 1 - 149 points - never
- Example fleet 2 - 135 points - never
- Example fleet 3 - 121 points - never
If needed we could archive the ladders at certain times and reset them if the ladder starts to become stale.
Comments
This would be a huge undertaking, requiring lots of dedication to work - and its kind of intimidating with its size. Let's keep an open mind when we discuss this.
1. It would need to be the fleet leaders from key fleets, I would say either 3 or 5 member council, as to avoid ties incase of regulation or declaring a winner fleet in the event of a point tie.
2. Either an off site forum where we can discuss this, or we ask one of the devs to maintain a locked thread, with a separate topic for discussion, and possibly a third for complaints or comments about the system.
3. Well outside of energy credits or batteries we don't have much to offer unless the winners want blue, green, or white equipment...lol. We could offer a "C-store" gift card to the winning team, maybe 1000 or 2000 points per team member (5000 or 10000 total), and each participating fleet would pitch in some money to get those organized. Or we could ask the devs really really nicely to comp us some stuff for setting this up. I will also add that an announcement on the main page may be enough to motivate people to participate, and an announcement of the winning fleet may be enough of a reward. This would also be a good thing for game publicity, where players are stepping up and showing that we do have a good community here.
5. I think the point scale looks fine, we might run into some errors when we get things rolling but theoretically it's logical and practical. Figuring out if a team is a smurf fleets to bolster scores may be a problem, there is no way to confirm a fleet is throwing a game, but I think forcing them to "pay into the pot" would prevent this, The only other thing I can think of is fleets who wish to contribute more than one team.
6. It seems easy enough that one person could manage the ladder although I would prefer a group to acknowledge wins/losses, once everyone agrees on something I might have the time to pitch in.
7. I can think of three fleets off the top of my head who I know would be in for sure, the only problem is I can only see probably 7 or 8 fleets total participating, but I wouldn't be surprised if more came out of the woodwork.
8. I would say give it till a week or two after season 2 launches, that way everyone can level, figure out the new builds, and learn to PVP with the changes, and we can prepare incase there are impending nerfs on any classes/abilities. Otherwise I fear we may get things going and then have a patch slapped on us mid season.
As for legacy consoles that is a very good offer, but are we sure they aren't getting normalized after S2?
All of this.
50,000 members and a few thousand active teams.
Squadgames.com. I still have the site and was coding a new ladder / league system until things got busy @ work a few years ago.
You'll see a few game servers (Bad Company 2, Vegas 2, LFD2, etc) that use the name which I still run.
We did around $15,000 in prizes during the 2 years I had it up at full force.
I wouldn't mind doing another one again but managing a league / ladder site is a full time job if you have any traffic.
Teamwarfare and the old CALeague have/had good setups in the past too.
There's a lot of .PHP ladder code floating around there you could probably use (or modify) to your liking to make this happen for STO.
thats six fleets willing to participate; not a bad turnout. Unfortunately though, My programming skills are complete TRIBBLE (more accurately, what programming skills?). And as ninjaboy said, It is a full time investment for a single person.
I'd like to inform you guys that 7th Core will be hosting a PvP tournament on July 24th. This is an unofficial announcement.
Saturdays are generally hellatiously bad for me; But I will see that I assemble a fine 182 fleet to attend (may or may not include me)
Section 31 might be able to put up some decent prizes for future events.
I don't mind helping out as an admin whoever wants to get it going.
Basicly I wish that our Premade pvp community would become better except for Zigs ofc. J/k
Maybe irc channel?
Whatelse yeah im definatly wanna play in this ladder but then again am I allowed to be in two teams? The GoD, and 182?
Basicly what's making my premadepvp Enviroment less enjoyable is that i situp waiting for those americans to login during their primetime (witch is 7in the morning over here in finland) so set times for fights would be very welcome.
Also rules about frapsing could be stated do all teams wish that their premades to be captured on vid for youtube or whatever..
