What happened to my footstep sounds? o.o

Um, I have only changed two things.

First, I let the prepatch for Tribble download since I want to help test that content.

Second, I noticed (having logged onto tribble and seeing default graphics), that my graphical settings were lowered. This is because the first day (1 month ago today :D), I had heating problems and I kept crashing.. I also wanted to run at 60 FPS. My cooling system is upgraded, and I realized I could run 45-50 with much nicer looking settings.. So not knowing what to change, I just set it to "recommended".

I only just realized, so I don't know when it happened, but my footstep sounds are no longer there. This sucks! I love footstep sounds!

Has this happened elsewhere? Appreciate any help.

Can you post your dxdiag? Are you using the -ignore64x in the launcher command line?

How to create a dxdiag report:

    1. From the Windows key click *Start* menu, then click *Run*.
    2. In the *Open* box, type: dxdiag (hit enter)
    3. If this is your first time running dxdiag, click *Yes* to launch the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
    4. Click on the Sound 1 tab.
    5. Look at the first line under the “Device” section.

Attach this to a post in this thread.

No, I am not using that command.

Attach just the sound part, or the whole thing?

    Here's the part you mentioned.

    Device
Name: Headset Earphone (Logitech USB Headset)
    Decice ID: USB\VID_046DPID_0A02REV_1013MI_00
    Manufacturer ID: 65535
    Product ID: 65535
    Type: WDM
    Default Device: Yes

Yeah attach the whole thing, this way if there are any errors I can see them.

Well, I hope there's some way you can help. This like SERIOUSLY detracts from the aural experience of the game for me, like REALLY BAD.. I really hope you can help.. but I cannot stay awake any longer.. :(

Unfortunately I do not see anything wrong. File a bug ticket and our QA team can look into it.

    I discovered the problem.

I turned Anisotropic filtering off and they returned.

That's curious. I wasn't even aware STO even had footstep sounds, until I saw this thread and turned down ambient and turned up my speakers, and there it was!

Unfortunately it's something I won't ever hear since I value my eardrums more than the sound of phaser fire at the level I would have to bump fx volume up to to hear the steps.

I can actually reproduce this now 100% of the time. Oddly, not with Anisotropic filtering.

If I set my settings to Recommended, they work and/or turn back on.

If I enable advanced settings and go down to Visual FX Quality (right below Postprocessing On/Off) and set them to High, footsteps work. If I set them to Low or Medium, Footsteps mute.

I know this thread is long dead, but I'm glad I found it. The footsteps thing has bothered me for a LOOOONG time. It seems like a minor issue, but it isn't. The footstep sounds help with the immersion, and when they're gone, you have an awayteam full of silent ninjas.

Odd that turning VISUAL fx to high enables sound effects.
