Galaxy-X PVP Tips

Since the Galaxy-X is now getting a lot of use in PVP, I thought it'd be nice to have a thread dedicated to people giving tips or advice on it.

I'll start.

1. Do not decloak and immediately use the lance, the damage it'll do to the ship through shields is negligable and the power drain will drastically reduce your alpha strike potential. Rather leave the lance to finish off an escaping ship (or one that's about to get healed).

I have more then once raised an eyebrow at a Gal-X firing it's lance at me when I have full shields. This is shortly followed by me glancing at my hull and seeing it still at 100%. The thing has a 3 minute recharge time, so it should be used in a more tactical manner.

2. Unless you have a great team, don't fit the thing with cannons. Even in my Galaxy-X, I can avoid them, go behind and pummel their hull.

3. A possible tactic is let one of your side open fire on the desired target. When they RSP prep your buffs and what not, wait until the RSP runs out and then decloak and unload damage onto them.

4. Use it to take out escorts that are lagging behind or got adventurous.

5. Remember the enemies firing arc when setting up a strike. Whilst decloaking does give you a slight advantage in terms of damage, appearing infront of an escort is stupid unless your sure you can take it out in 2 seconds flat.

6. When you have decloaked and are exchanging fire, don't run into any warp plasma.

7. Even if you're equipped like an escort, you'll never have the same alpha strike potential due to skill slots. If you really want to wipe something out quickly in a surprise attack, your going to need to gang up with other Galaxy-X's.

If you're set up with a lot of typical cruiser healing/support skills, don't cloak. Be there for your team, especially against Klingons. Their alpha is way better than yours.

    Very good point.

Too all you new Gal X Cloak users. My Sci Klink can see you WAY to often. If you have low aux you are going to be seen... if you impulse your aux drops to 5.
I have seen plenty of Gal X players flying at me cloaked at full impulse... I see you.
Honestly I ignore you and turn around to get your flank, or kill your friends first which ever.

Really though read the info in the Klingon Negvar forums.

I must ask. Is this because the Galx does not have a battle cloak?

I believe too many of them are running at 25 aux as they want to be escorts. Aux powers your cloak so running with low power... or using F Impulse drops aux to 5. As any sci capt with lots of sensor spend and high aux themselves is going to have a good chance to see you.... popping a sensor scan when your sure one is near will almost always revel them.

Side note I really don't see many feds using their sensor scan to find klinks anymore. This used to happen all the time. I know its nice to save it for the dmg bonus... but really catching someone off guard is way more useful.

Aye, so far as I can tell the only thing about battle cloak that is different from regular cloak is the fact that you can use it when in red alert, in battle.

My best advice for the Gal-X is to leave it at home and fly something better.

Is this overall or total damage? If so, one of the other cruisers can top that.

Is this Damage Per Second? If so, then an escort can top that.

I like this ship, in fact I'd prefer that the regular ol' Galaxy was the T5, but I too enjoy blowing them up. Finding one while it's still cloaked can be rather satisfying. XD

Only if it's a badly flown Gal-X. Decloaking gives you a 15% damage bonus, along with being able to attack them before they initiate their buffs. When they finally do, they can be down to half their health giving you a distinct advantage.

So yes, more damage then a cruiser if used correctly. I'd upload some score charts, but unfortunately it seems it only accepts txt files.

QFT I really loved doing it on klinks as my sci but on unsuspecting feds is funner.

I agree, however, by the time this works you are almost already being fired upon. The chance of actually revealing a BoP versus the cooldown time versus the damage bonus really is a wash. I prefer to use it to give my team the damage bonus since I rarely ever find a BoP with it. I run at 75+ AUX, often over 100 and am still not seeing the cloaked ships quick enough for this tactic. This might be why Feds have held onto it instead of using it more.

Thats a good point. I have noticed and I guess I do the same... klinks seem to be a lot more rush in and gun lately. There are so many new ways to have instant on power in 1.2 I guess.

Not really seeing it play out on the scorecard. It could be due to the fact that the Galaxy X is now a huge bullseye and dies more than a nondescript sovereign or star cruiser. And thus spends more time out of combat, and thus has lower overall damage.

Or it could be that the cloak and the phaser lance do not make up for the console and weapon slot differences?

Either way, I'm just not seeing the Galaxy X topping the scorecard in overall damage. And of course, now would be a great time for me to use the fun counter-argument that assault cruisers only do less overall damage because they are poorly flown assault cruisers. Kind of like back in grammar school when learning how fractions cancelled each other out.

    ;)
