heres a couple of layouts i made

kinda of a cheat here, but changed a button.

This partially explains my original ideas
http://s929.photobucket.com/albums/ad133/falconius/?action=view&current=Shuttle-class.png

Some parts may be similar from other treads out there, and some of this is my own ideas.

Suggestion for building and customizing (player piloted) shuttles (with pictures):
Each of the shuttle types come with a pre-set or default amount of fore or aft weapon slots, and boff consoles, (some may have none). These can be changed with the optional shuttle parts.

First Shuttles should be divided into Three classes: Small, Medium, Large. Then further classified into:
Small – type 9
Small – type 6
Small – type 8

Medium – “Enterprise-E” Type 11
Medium – “Delta flyer”

Large – Yacht type
Large – runabout type
Large – fighter type

Small and medium sized shuttles should be allowed to be crafted completely in the players’ ship, the Large ones on Utopia shipyards.

This could be accomplished by adding a shuttle bay to the insides of player ships, and having a console there to bring up the Shuttle fabrication menu.

Shuttle Fabrication consists mainly of two different stages:

>Stage one

Shuttles require parts to be assembled.
There are 5 different types of shuttle parts.

A group of 4 different part that effect the looks and performance of the constructed ship, and are required for the ship to be created. These four types are: nacelles, Fore hull, aft hull, and Pylons. This is Very similar to the normal ship customization. Each one of these parts can have a different look to them, as well as adding or subtracting stats to the completed shuttle. Such as giving it an extra fore weapons slot, or a plus to aux power. Something like that.

Each part looks different and has different stats.

The other type of part, is the Optional parts for the shuttle they include adding boff consoles of different ranks and profession (sci, eng, and tac), Adding a cloaking device, or extra crew to the shuttle, or a device that gives one extra data sample when going to an Anomalous Reading, or one that gives the ship another weapon mount point.

These parts are gained by mining or trading for raw materials (some parts could be replicate-able
commodities) or parts.

Each part has a set amount of raw material. Something to the effect of:
5x raw Dilithium crystals
4x tons of Cormaline
1x ton Bakrinium
2x tons of Platinum

The parts, no matter the size can be crafted on the players ship or utopia shipyards. But the large shuttles have to be constructed at Utopia.

If building the parts while on your ship. Your engineer has influence over how much of each resource it takes for the final product. A commander engineering officer could decrease the amount by 10%.

>Stage two
Slot the parts into the fabrication window. The Shuttle is “required” to have the 4 main components (nacelles fore hull, aft hull, and pylons) in order to be built. You can build the shuttle without any optional parts if you don’t have them, because they are harder to get or more expensive.

The fabrication process requires energy credits to complete.

Didn't mean to step on anyone's toes here, If i did i apologize.

    Doesn't look that bad myself.

Personally, I'd love to do something where I could create a streamlined version of the runabouts...

This could open the door into making crafting worth while. Their could be specific anomoly/resource scan/drops that you could craft into components at Memory Alpha. There could be a large set of components each with better attributes and powers the higher tier crafter you are.

For example they could help with turn rate and fire power. These could both be different components you can use when you're physically customizing your shuttle and just upgrades. This would make crafting more worth while and those who do craft more valuable in the game. People who craft a lot will have better shuttles then one who does'nt and would make these people vital to the community. The differnece be a standard shuttle and the delta flyer per say.

If this is too work however, there will need to be at least a hundred different things to craft. This would give players more customization in their universe and open new gameplay options.

    A very cool idea.
I would love the idea of building/tricking out a shuttle and using it for missions, races, etc...

    Cool looking pics.

But, there's some mechanics issues that would need to be addressed.

Shuttles are currently pets. And you can barely see the Del Taco shuttle.

Runabouts are full fledged ships. And you can't fly one without returning to a spacedock and switching.

So they'd have to revamp the mechanics for those kinds of ships to be able to fly them on 'missions' from your ship.

But the pics look amazing. Great work.

EDIT: And to clarify, I'm not saying they can't or won't revamp the system to allow for this type of thing. It's just ... it's the kind of thing that takes time. It's been four five months now? And captains being able to sit and ship interiors are ... still on the way. Interiors before sitting, even, heh. So you know, there'd be a timeline if they chose to do something like this. Probably not something with fast turnaround.

I don't think anyone is expecting this tomorrow.
I mean, it IS a holiday after all.
So, Tuesday then. Wednesday at the latest. :D

First off, I know there would be work before something like this. From what i have seen of Cryptic's engine, this is very possible, just time consuming. Theres more pieces to this than just this. like a working shuttle bay (assuming the interiors turn out awesome), a mining system, reasons for the the shuttles (other than "cool i can fly a shuttle") shuttle missions, races, shuttle interiors... we all know this stuff would need to be made, and i know it wont be here like yesterday.

Besides the Devs said they were looking for the next thing the community wants. Im pushing for shuttles, and Thought i'd get this moving a little more. I can dream right? :D

In this I am also pushing for the game's (internally and externally) economic boon, as well as something else for players to do.

The Delta Flyer is definitely a large. It's a big, sturdy craft.

I kept it a medium, because they built it on voyager. but its definitely an either/or

Wow, a very cool idea! I assume they are also pilot-able? I can't wait for the day we can walk onto our hanger deck and step into a shuttlecraft to take down to a planet or base station!

Also, add a Type-F Shuttle for us TOS fans for our Conny!

Yup the idea is they are pilotable, not pets.

What would be the purpose of the shuttles? Would you do battle with them or just fly down to planets n stuff?

    This.

I really like the idea of customizable/craftable shuttles, but we would need to have something to do with them once they are created.

Perhaps for Data Collection or other mission actions, a 'mini-game' starts with control of the shuttles and how to deploy them.

    +1

Also it sounds like you could launch this shuttle from your ship and fly it. What would happen to your ship when you were flying it, in both sector space or in system space?

Ok so not everyone can have or will have a shuttle (I did keep this in the front of my mind) So I first thought of having a planet mission where you beam down to the surface and gather data or the like, Be able to use your shuttle Instead of beaming down, or in conjunction With beaming down to the planet to satisfy the mission.

Some ships dont have a large shuttle bay so they wouldnt be able to do the mission, and of course the people who dont have a shuttle cant do the missions, so make most of the shuttle missions optional.

Then I had the idea of shuttle craft races, like from Voyager. This could make the game interesting...

I like it. I thin customization should probably be limited to the Captain's Gig/Yacht and shuttles should be something more standardized by Starfleet.
