Bounty Hunting

Could be a dumb idea, but there is a few cases in the series where there was bounty hunting. One of the only games I played which delt with it was really Mafia Wars :).

However, I could invision people posting credits for a specific persons death, and accolades related to that.

I know it would be difficult to determine who would get credit for the kill.

Just a thought and probing for feedback.

Here is the link to the bounty hunter i remember: http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Skalaar

EVE online has a bounty hunting feature on it where players can put up bountys on other players
although the player has to be in a negitive security status for another player to place the bounty
and whoever gets the killing blow gets the bounty but usually we always split the bounty between
the players in the fleet at the time.

I'm guessing that without open pvp (space) like in Eve, it wouldn't be much of a cat and mouse game. Maybe if the person had a bounty, they could be treated like a random encounter. They would be engage'able anywhere, where then the bounty would be fullfilled by those in the encounter.

the attackers would get credit for bounty hunting and the hunted would get notarity credit.

If there was total open PvP like in Eve's 0.0 sec space it would work and add spice. Sadly though without open PvP and no flagging options, the person with the bounty on their head could play in safety just by never hitting the Q.

With a Flag system the person could be Auto Flagged I guess but I doubt that Cryptic or any game would allow players to Flag others. With open PvP they could add a debuff Icon to the player so anyone scanning over them would see they have a bounty that could be collected. The Money would be taken out of pocket immediately when placing the bounty and the debuff added to the player.

In a match you get points when you shoot someone and they die so if 4 players kill the bounty then it gets split 4 ways everyone who got a point on the kill would get a share. If you did it solo you get the whole thing. Ether way after the bounty is collected the debuff comes off. The debuff of course would have no other effect then just be there as a marker. They could also color code the marker to indicate bounty size.

I would still Q and have fun with it and many others as well I bet. But there would always be someone who would be a baby about it.

I can see the whine thread now " I CAN"T PLAY STO BECAUSE OF BOUNTY !"

I think it's a good idea but would be too mean spirited for the main STO player base.

One of their zones did this, but it was a lower level zone (Level 20's-30's) Siren's Call. Gave points for killing specific people that you could use towards items in the zone. Would have been something they could have implimented in other zones, but they never did. And still haven't iirc.

Oddly enough some of us were discussing this very topic in ESD today.

I think it could be worked into game play but the hunter couldnt be a fed since money is a non-issue.

I would like to see a faction like the Orion Syndicate be brought into the fold for those types of non-starfleet roles.
There could be classes related only to that faction such as bounty hunter.
There could also be arms dealers or traders of shady goods in general, and even orion slave girls playing a role similar to entertainers in SWG.

WIth UGC on the horizon, players could create scenarios related to these types of characters as well. Possibly persistent locales that give these types of classes a place outside starfleet to conduct shady business deals.

Im of the opinion that there needs to be more to this game than just combat. Some non-combat alts you can pop onto and take a detour from the main aspects of the game for a few hours would be nice.

If it would give me better PvP, I'd sign up for a bounty on my head.

I think a bounty system would be cool, with the caveat that we die pretty often and easily in PvP, as it stands now. It makes death a pretty common thing. I agree that with a move to open PvP sectors, the mechanic could be a LOT of fun. :)

Nice Idea but just doesn't work without open world PvP

Until open pvp becomes available they could initiate it as a fleet option.
Wouldn't be true bounty hunting right away but they could give fleets the option of being friendly or hostile towards other ones.
A kill of a hostile fleet member could count for something.
