Just curious... You think Poker in STO should be more like Windows Solitaire or a mobile phone game?
Or should it work in a system of bluffing and tells with emotes and character animations?
I'd be willing to put up with some delay and a loadscreen to get the latter, personally, as it seemed to me that Trek Poker was more about the bluffing than the game or the probability and math behind it... And I tend to think a bluffing mechanic would be great for PvE, ship to ship hails and some offshoots of diplomacy.
It should work exactly like online poker works, only in an ST shell. You shouldn't be able to rely on a mechanical crutch like some scripted tell sign, you should have to learn how another player bets when he has or doesn't have something, weigh your own options, play your own bluffs without some computer giving you away.
Yeah, I could see poker in STO like Jexsam describes. I'm hoping it will be a fun reason to socialize, but I also know some others will want it to be more realistic. That's cool with me; I enjoy a game of Texas Hold 'Em, and I always loved the poker scenes in TNG.
I'm looking forward to poker, but I'm really waiting on 3D Chess. Hopefully, once Dabo comes out, then poker, then we'll get chess. My captain will definitely have a board in his quarters and the lounge/mess hall.
If they want insperation perhaps something like the Poker in Red Dead Redemption? Its a lot of fun but im sure they have a great idea already on how to include it.
no, you put animated tells in the poker and within a day there'll be pages on the net detailing every single animation and exactly what it means then within another day we'll have a fleet of rainmen predicting every single hand with 100 % accuracy.
Whats that other game that Jadzia played with the Ferengis? Dom-Jat maybe? That seems like it would be an interesting addition to the game moreso than poker.
There are many people out there who are great at poker and it would be nice to have a game that most everyone starts on an even playing field. I bet aside from a select few hard-core trekkies noone knows how to play that ferengi game.

Tongo is the name of that game. Dom-Jot was what Jake Sisko and Nog was playing ... kinda like a pool game. Which also Picard played when he was stabbed through the heart.

I'm gonna have to side with the no side on this one. Tells would just be irritating and wreck the fun. Aren't we supposed to be smart enough to notice patterns in the game anyway? When someone does something enough times, I'm sure you'd figure it out sooner or later.

i guess everyone knows the classic 5-card-draw version
and many might have heard about texas-holdem which have grown very popular last years...
but there are other interesting variants like omaha, 7-card-stud or lowball f.e. ...
and even many many more...
i hope the upcoming poker game will be worth it
to set up weekly poker meetings with other players,
i would really enjoy it
