sto and freebsd!!

I've used microsoft products for a few years now and I think it's time to move away again. The only application I'm not sure I can take with me is startrekonline. My reason for leaving windows is that I'm a tad tired of paying for mechanic utilities to tune-up the system and other antivirus applications. I feel this should be included in the operating system. Also these applications 'break' 50% of the time leaving me without the software I paid for. Also note that macos, iphone, are built ontop of freebsd. Also microsoft is known to use parts of freebsd for windows.

I realize there are many different methods to use sto over freebsd. But maybe someone else has already done it? If not is there anyone that would benefit from a howto after I figure it out?

You should probably take a look at this thread and see what your chances are...

    Disclaimer: Not supported etc etc

Should work okay under Wine though, or at least as well as Wine usually works.

I run it fine in Debian the latest Wine 1.2 rc3 seems to work pretty stable, and it loads faster then in windows.

It'll run fine under wine right up to the point where it attempts to use the 3d rendering support that freebsd doesn't have for your card.

If you do have one of the few cards that actually works on freebsd and is powerful enough to handle STO, it should be fine. Otherwise, you'll have to run linux to get the hardware support.

My card is supported. I've already enabled it on freebsd. Unfortunately I installed amd64 and not i386 which means wine is broken for me. Other options?

Install i386. In a chroot if necessary.
