Hey guys, I'm getting a really terrible rates of crashes in the game. I recently upgraded from a demo account to a full account using a retail box. Everything seems fine until I attempt to engage in some kind of protracted firefight. At some point during the second or third fight I attempt in a row, I seem guaranteed to crash to desktop. The Cryptic error handling thingy usually pops up, so I hope someone is seeing this data and hopefully working on a fix, but... ugh. I've crashed like seven times today alone.
The crash is almost always during ground combat in enclosed missions. I played through most of an outdoor combat mission successfully, only to crash immediately once I engaged in a fight in an indoor followup portion. At one point, I did crash unexpectedly during a ship combat mission as well. My captain is a Caitian Tac Officer and is currently using elements from the Alternate Universe DLC, Disruptor pistols and a martial arts specialist kit.
Here are my basic specs, and I can post a dxdiag or run another diagnostic if need be. I've updated my drivers as of yesterday.
OS: Win 7 64-Bit
CPU: Pentium 4 Quad @ 2.4 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850
VRAM: 4 GB
Sound: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi
I don't want to sound like "that guy who threatens to quit", but in all honesty, this is seriously affecting my enjoyment of the game and there are many other games that I could be playing that do not crash constantly...
That's almost the same spec I got:
(I'm also in the same boat, crashes mainly on ground missions with tons of enemies, for instance, going near the Exchange in DS9 Fleet action is almost a guarantee crash)
Win7 64bit
Quad core i7 processor
6GB DDR3
X-Fi Titanium HD
ATi 5970 - 2GB VRAM
Well it may help to know exactly what the error is that you are running into? I mean, what if I walked up to you and said "Hey, my car just stopped running do you know what is wrong?" how exactly is that person supposed to help you? You could be out of gas, the head gasket could have blown, the radiator could be leaking water, and the list goes on.
The more information you can provide will help a great many people try and figure out what is happening to you beyond "during the second or third fight I attempt in a row, I seem guaranteed to crash to desktop" which could describe any fight in the game and in any area of the game. Not trying to pick on you here but throw us a bone here. ^_^

Can you also post a dxdiag so we can ensure everything is on the up and up?
To create a DXDiag report, follow these steps:
1. Click "Start" menu, then click "Run"
2. In the "Open" box, type: DXDiag (hit enter)
3. If this is your first time running DXDiag, click "Yes" to launch the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
4. Click "Save All Information" to create a DXDiag report.
5. Choose a name and location for the dump file (recommend desktop) and click "Save".
Zip this file and attach it to a post in this thread.
Turn off dynamic lighting in the video options and that should solve the problem......unless ofcourse you have already tried it. This is a known problem for ATI cards (not everyone seems to experience it) and doing this usually fixes it.
.... that did it.
Turned off Dynamic Lighting option, and I went on the Big Dig with a couple others.
Finally completed it after 3 hours+ without a single crash.
hmmm, i will try it when i next play, but ATI or Cryptic need to fix this issue, having to turn an option off to solve a problem should not be a solution.

Kindda odd that this issue has been around for ages now and there hasn't been a proper fix to it yet.
