I've been playing STO since open beta and have learned from experience how to pilot my escort through trial and error and assistance from talking to other players. When I started the game had a rich and deverse player base and had many experienced players learning together. Now alot of those players are gone or have decided to take a break from the bordom of rolling through PUG Group after PUG Group and has left a void for the new players.
I'm getting really bored with doing a PVP match and not even being challenged. Premade groups play each other daily but there aren't that many of us left and the enjoyment and challenge is short lived. We all want more of a challenge and to get that we need to teach the new players the tricks of the trade so to speak. Some players don't want to PVP or even learn but for all of those out there that do please send me a message, find me in game and I will offer you any assistance I can to help expand the PVP arena so we all can enjoy a better PVP environment.
I would like to think I have a decent understanding of ships and classes but I have friends in the game that are specialists in every class so whatever u fly I can get u some answers on how to spec your ship for what u want to accomplish.
I'm also calling for other PVPers to also open there doors to everyone that wants to learn.
I like it! I wish more people frequented these forums to see the guides that are available and to take people up on an offer like this. The vastly different skill levels demonstrated across PvP make for incredibly frustrating play both for regular and new folks (equally I'm sure). I can go from one match where I feel like a god to another where I almost wish I'd never logged on.
I have to admit that I am a bit pessimistic, however. No matter how good the intent when offering advice some people really don't know how to take criticism. I'm not able to put myself out there as having gained any great knowledge about anything but I'm more than willing to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Or at least try to help find someone (or a thread) that can.
I do think one thing that we could all do is try to be a little better about how we take a win (or a loss for that matter). Say what you want about sportsmanship but if we belittle everyone who is joining the fight too late or a little slow to learn (like I am) we are only helping to destroy the player base.
One of the things we do when screening new potential members is quiz them as to their loadouts and tactics. We offer advice based on what has made us successful. Typically within the first five minutes you can tell those who cannot take advice or are willing to change from their previously successful "PvE Captain Kirk" experience. Unfortunately this seems like way too high a percentage of the game's population.
That being said, myself and others in my fleet remain open to answer any and all questions put to us. We've gone so far as to make YouTube videos showing how to defend against the old-style SNB/VM combination and BTS:S stacking. Sadly, it never seems to help or stem the tide of forum QQ'ing. Why learn to adapt when if you whine long and loud enough the DEV's will simply provide you the "balance changes" you want?
If you have questions please feel free to contact me or anyone in my fleet...we'd be happy to help. Zorena is of course excluded from that offer...:p
