What Makes A Quitter?

Uh oh, here comes another shot to the ol' ego. Time to hit the road! What would it take to make you quit a game? Is there something that drives you to duck out instantly, every time? Or maybe something that you'll put up with to a point before you have to make a run toward the edge of the map?

I'd generally rather not leave a match once I'm in. I did take the time and effort to queue up after all. There's always the real life concerns that can pop up, no escaping that. If there isn't another team on the other side of the map after a short while I'd certainly look towards sector space.

At least I finally know what the problem is. I made the list! What's on yours?

I must admit, blackjack is stupidly overpowered. In magic the gathering, we call that a tournament staple ;). I think he needs to get a name change so people stop shooting at him.

but in all seriousness, I think that 182/GoD will only leave a match when the opponents refuse to engage us. That means not spawning, leaving, or refusing to engage (if your a klingon) and only if the teams aren't balanced. We give the opposing team fair warning when that happens though and advise them to do the same. No one likes unfair games, if the opponent doesn't want to play then we don't want to make them. Might sounds stupid, but it saves face for the opposing team.

Quit from match ? only if the opposition has greater numbers and has nothing better to do, than smack talk. I remember i have done it only ONCE last 3 months. It was in ground combat agains one of the more renowed ground fleets. They had greater numbers, yet moved like slugs and waited (probably stacked some evil skills). I eventually felt it was pretty bothersome, slow and anoying, and my mate and me both left the match, leaving them in empty instance. Im not proud of it, but thats what you get, if you smack talk. :o I do not donate marks to everyone, and dying 40 times to some is not really worth my time.

Steve-O there rushed the fedball alone twice in a row in a 3v5 match, wouldn't wait for a strategy pow-wow, and in general refused to defend himself. If me leaving to let him continue that behavior is quitting, what was he doing exactly? Throwing a match is throwing a match, I don't have to sit around and put up with it.

Actually my Fed guy is just terribly equipped and it can be frustrating to play him right now. Saving up tokens for my first purple...of course as often as I play him it could take months. My Fed is just something to mess around on when it gets slow.

Wait a sec are you busting on Elash? I somewhat remember this match and I don't recall him throwing the game or doing anything wrong. If I was on my Klingon and had a 3v5 I wouldn't think twice about attacking the Fedball. Now, if I am misunderstanding what you meant then I apologize but to me it looks like you are waaay off base.

The only reason I would head for the edge of the map is if there is no one else on the opposing team and hasn't been for some time.

Little boys throwing tantrums is part of pug PvP. If you don't like it join a PvP fleet.

Locking my main character in Lemuria, with no response from customer service on getting him UNSTUCK ... and having me be bored to tears with my alts to the point that I spend 2 solid weeks ONLY on the forums until I realize I no longer desire to play the game and do not miss it.

That's what got me to cancel my sub to Champions. Game bug took away my main character. And I realized I was bored with the rest of it.

I don't think anything in Cryptic made games in terms of PVP could ever ruffle my feathers enough to complain very loudly, let alone quit. After I got used to ground PVP and holds and how to survive them sometimes, I got the general pace of PVP and no longer care if I get steamrolled. It happens. It usually happens because of a breakdown in teamwork/support. It gets very very very apparent that teamwork is key when you are in an unorganized team and you face a very organized team of opponents. That doesn't bother me. If all goes well, they'll kill me fast enough to get me the end merits quicker. And at the end of the day, win or lose ... all that's important is 5 more marks from the daily.

    The end.

Are we talking about a game or a match?

The only match in STO I'd quit would be a ground PvP match where it is 5 vs 1 or something. I'm not going to stick around and get killed 40 times, thanks.

TBH I quit sometimes matches when it's 5 v 1 or 2 on solar wind. The worst things happen to me there... A fed sticks around till 0:14 and then decides to not respawn again. "%!#%! I've seen kids in internet caffes getting a *****slap for far less.

Actually, when I started the thread I was thinking more about what it would take to cause you to quit a match but Superchum took it a step further and that's an interesting question. We've all heard plenty of complaints coming from all over the place, sometimes from the same people. Obviously some of the complaints are meant to help direct the game to fit your ideas of what it should be but you can only make so many suggestions before it's time to throw in the towel.

I guess for me, right now, I'm still trying to get a grasp on one aspect of the game so it still provides me with just enough challenge to keep me interested. Plus, I like pew pewing, I love Star Trek, and I have pretty high hopes that this game will flesh out to allow for more variety and fun.

So what would it take for you to quit a match or even go so far as to quit the game as a whole? And do you think that if you left this is something you'd be interested in checking out again in a year or so (supposing it makes it that long)?

Section 31 / GoD / DOB never quit matches that I've ever seen.

Even if you're in a pug on a really horrible team there's always PvP Zone chat to be had!

    Whooops! Sorry for misreading that.

    :)

I don't think space PVP lasts long enough for me to worry about quitting a match. But I do recall being in a 5 vs. 1 in the ground and just not wanting to play anymore. This was back in March? April? Yeah, I got bored. And quit. I probably would have stuck it out if it wasn't so long to get to 40 deaths.

Boredom would seem to be the common thread in what causes me to quit things. Heh.

In my own experience, when the sides are not equally balanced, the KDF side tends too have "gentlemen" like Biological and others that sit the match out so it is a fair fight. I have yet to witness any Fed group do this.

There is on occasion the KDF player that withdraws from battle and flees, but we make it our business to hunt that person down and make him see the error of his ways. So, in short, when it comes to real people picking unreal factions, the KDF tends to have the most honorable players, exceptions granted ofcourse.

    Never seen it.

There really is no reason to withdraw a match, I have however taken dives to get one over. when it s 4v2 and on of the two leaves. I just head out and try to get it over with.

The only problem I have had with KDF players in match play is they sometimes cloak and stay cloaked. Feds seem to bail much quicker than KDF players.

GoD Rage quitted two matches in a row today, the odds were stupidly unfair. There was no way we could win.

Why even bother trying when you know you can't win?

There is actually sometimes I wish someone would quit. Yesterday I was PvPing and everyone was working together, surprisingly well actually. Anyway, there was this one guy who kept jetting off alone to the Klinks, not firing a single weapon and getting smashed. When you're playing cracked planet, it gets frustrating - especially when I rush in and pop my heals to try and help him...only to realise he's come to a complete stop.
When asked, of course he was only levelling and thought this was the best way...then I got told to "STFU". In the end, after most other feds had rage quit, it was me and the klinks. This idiot was in every time I went into cracked planet.

I always keep playing, no matter the odds. Simply because this game has no incentive for staying alive.

I can see quitting in an Arena if no opposition ever spawns or the other team leaves, or in a Capture and Hold if the flags have gotten bugged and the Influence counters stop working.

Otherwise, quitting when hopelessly outnumbered? Why? Take your pounding, collect some points and move on to the next round. It may not be much fun, but at least it won't be a complete waste of time.

You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. If you are afraid to be defeated, stay out of PvP...

I'd only leave a match if I was the only one on my team or if the opposition start being ****** at the start of the match. I didn't queue up to solo a whole team nor did I queue to be insulted repeatedly.
