Previously I'd posted about older drivers, and a beta driver of the driver mentioned in the title, being used on a Unibody MacBook Pro from late 2008.
For those of you having serious problems even at somewhat mediocre graphics, on an nVidia GPU, go and see if the 257.21 driver covers your GPU/GPUs as it is a MASSIVE improvement over 257.15 and older versions.
Notes:
1) Does not handle the Maximized Window setting well. Manually set this to full screen to avoid most if not all visual glitches.
2) Gave me MAJOR problems with CUDA activated on a Windows 7 64 bit installation on a MacBook Pro from late 2008. Deactivating CUDA on the primary GPU stopped overheating issues and many glitches.
3) Graphics improvements for me went from being at about 50% quality across the board, to nearly if not flat out 100% quality. Shadows to High (formerly off), Reflections to High (formerly off), Antialiasing to 8x (formerly 4x), Particles On (were off), High Quality models/details on (formerly off), Vertical Sync On (was off), Dynamic Lighting On (was off), Lighting Quality High, amongst others. The only setting I did keep down was limiting the game to 30fps.
My computer has only overheated once in three days of testing, and that was only because I was playing out the DS9 Fleet Action scene going into the Bajoran Temple, but beyond that I haven't had any standby modes kick in from overheating anymore (used to happen as many as 7 times in 3-4 hours), and everything is pretty smooth even at high quality.
Well it's driver 258.69 now, released a week ago or possibly a few weeks ago, and it did resolve most of the random flickering. I don't get background flickering anymore though sometimes my ship's shadows will do the flicker-dance. But it handles Windows Maximized mode the best and haven't had any problems otherwise. I don't remember if fullscreen mode had any noteworthy problems, but I'm sure I would if it did :-/ From what I can tell though, these newer drivers have been a bit of a drama across different computers and configurations though.
I was getting lots of flickering, especially in DSE zones and in the pop up mission box where you see your bridge officer or an admiral, i was getting flickering around the edge of their faces and shoulders. So i went back to the 197.75 drivers and no more flickering, using a Galaxy GTX 470.:D

So far the entire 257.xx series has given me serious graphics issues on most games.
really? i use the 470 and the only issue i had/have is the shadows flickering when set to aything lower then medium
They improve performance somewhat, but as i prefer a glitchless play without any problems, i went back to th 197 drivers from late March.
Can't quite follow, tell me, does the latest beta driver handle STO in windowed mode better?
I give up! LOL! They're updating too quickly! Granted, it's better than them not updating at all...
