The Coward Game!

You are a coward if you hit and run, if you cloak, if you use evasive maneuvers, if you interrupt a "1 on 1" (nevermind the fuzzy math involved with those fights) and play as a team, there just doesn't seem to be a limit to the number of things that will earn you the title of "Coward" in this game. That ship you popped or that couldn't pop you gets butt hurt and there goes your label.

I thought it might be funny(ish?) to post some of the cowardly experiences we've had. Maybe we can get a running tally on just how often that word or others like it are used.

Most recently, in a cap and hold match this Fed charges in to attack a Klink trying to snag a flag. More klinks decloak and naturally he gets pwned resulting in the respawn /zone Cowards. Shortly thereafter the match ends and this guy charges another Klink but when more decloak he uses the warp out feature. I'm all for hit and run (with the intent to hit again) but if you are going to go around name calling shouldn't you... you know... not do the thing you were complaining about?

This guy didn't see my playful shot at him in /zone (on account of him ducking out very quickly) so I poked a little fun in /tell. Raise shields people. Grow a slightly thicker skin or something, lol.

I also think it is rather interesting how angry some get when others do not play into their hands. Expecting the opposition to cooperate is not the most sound plan that comes to mind. Anytime multiple enemies work together to defeat me, I take it as a compliment. If they feel I am a target worthy of such additional resources, so be it. :)

Did you know that Bloodwine requires the tears of your enemies to be brewed?

Feddy Bear QQ and the butt hurt comments they make in game and on the forums produce the best vintages. :D

They also keep my view screen nice and streak free.

I used to hate having Klinks run away right before I killed them. All that work for no kill seemed like a waste. I ended up doing two things; First I put myself in his shoes and figured I'd try to run too. Second, I started packing tractor beam. :D There's just no reason for hate tells.

Whenever I get called a coward while on my klink I remember 2 quotes by the great Gen George Patton.

"No ******* ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb ******* die for his country."

    and

"Untutored courage is useless in the face of educated bullets."

There was this guy on the forums, I'm not going to name him cause calling someone out on the forums is against the rules, lets just call him the OP. Well ... you know... he came as close to calling someone a coward as you could without actually doing it.

I think when a tell is provoked.. There must be some serious emotion behind that. If you cause that emotion, no matter how it may seem bad, its an interesting to me that you could stur that in someone.

Clever! I'd give you a cookie but I'm afraid I'd cut myself. I'm just saying that if you are going to get your panties all wadded up because of something someone did, it's funny that you'd go and do the same thing.

To be fair, it certainly isn't limited to Feds calling Klinks cowards. Not too long ago there was a Cracked Planet where the Fed Ball was so tight and the team worked so well together that one of our boney fore-headed brothers kept trying to provoke one of them to come out. Of course he was cloaked while doing this and ultimately he just left. If you can't beat or bait 'em, /exit!

Today someone in zone chat said, "OMG HOW DO FEDS GET A CLOAK?" in all caps, to which I responded: "its called jam sensors, don't get your panties in a wad it breaks on damage."

I got a hate tell, "watch your ****ing mouth". oh the irony

I love the Hit and Run attack. It's the cavalry charge of the 24th century.

I can just imagine charging over the peons and look down to see the horror on their faces. I bet if you could read their minds you'd get "Oi! that's not fair!" or "Blood coward, come down here and fight like a peon!"

Personally if your play style (style not griefing) ****es someone off enough for them to get abusive then in my mind I've won the battle just there. When I'm out played enough to be angry I endeavour to be light hearted about it or even make a good remark about the other persons playing style.

Even if you loose to a game exploit you have to realise that you need to either team better or examine your character and ship to see what you can improve.

The big thing for me is that there is the bad looser, however that is under-shadowed by the bad winner.

lol i had a similar funny experience today.
I ended up in a long drawn out stalemate for 10-20 minutes in Ker'rat, my T3 Cruiser Vs Klink T3 Cruiser. :p
Finally i just gave up as it was clear nobody could win it, so i dumped power into my engines and popped a battery and took evasive maneuvers out of there.

Then the guy sent me a /tell calling me a "looser" for that and that i first attacked him when he was under attack from borg, which he ran away from. :D

Here's the most recent one. Altogether pretty strong players so I was kind of surprised at how quickly things went bad. There was some other stuff further up on the chat log but this is the fun part, lol.

It seems to me that the combat in STO is being pushed into a "colonial era" format by the cries of unfairness by casual pvp'ers. Shall we all stand in pickets lines ? :p

he he he -- reading this and just laughing.

Yeah - had a couple Klings in the last few weeks doing the hit and run routine (Hello !! They are in a BoP of some form, standing up against a cruiser...what the 'ell do you think ??!!??) Seems a few of them must have really gotten under the OP's skin.

Cap/Hold - I show up at a point being held by one or two escorts. I survive the alpha strike by both, and now we are in a slug-match (cruiser's playground) Escorts, being handled by very good pilots realizing that a slug-fest is NOT what works for them zip out. And the problem is ???!!!??? 1)They play the strength of THEIR ship, not wanting to play into mine. 2)I still hold the area, while the two of them go off to lick wounds, to come back again 3)While they are licking wounds, I have healed up to near 100% again. 4)I am STILL holding that capture point !!!!! 4)They come back for round #2, 3, etc etc etc while I hold the point. They have far better odds of me NOT surviving an alpha strike, or they being able to rally that third ship I cannot handle, than to stick around in a losing fight on my terms. They are just playing VERY smart!

AND ??!!!?? Why are you whining about this? If opponents are running out to heal and come back, sounds like you are controlling the fight space. They are not. If it takes even two escorts doing hit and run to take me out, I have occupied their time and dps, leaving a teammate free. Your issue ???

Long/short - IMHO - post 1.2 patch, escorts cannot stand toe-to-toe with a good piloted cruiser, and not expect to get nailed. As it should be. If they cannot take the opposing ship in the alpha strike, they need to be out of the fight space quickly, regroup, come in again. It is simply the best tactic they have. Get used to it, and get a tractor beam.

Remember whenever fighting a losing battle:
If you run, you are a "coward".
If you stay, you are an "idiot".

You will get labled either way, so you may as well just play to win and ignore the wishes of the opposition.

Too many players want you to stay there and get beaten by them. Make them earn their victory. Do not just give it to them.

Actually, I'm a big fan and supporter of the hit and run tactics. I've seen them done really well, even by Feds who don't have the luxury of a cloak, and I'm trying to improve as best I can.

Exactly! I have been pretty lucky at getting away but there are clearly many players out there who can still chase me down and make me wish I had Evasive Maneuvers back, lol.

This one was sort of funny... I tried to stay out of pvp when I was power leveling last week... but you have to do a couple to keep from going insane. Sorry to any feds in the screen.. there was some talant in the game. Paddy had a nice balance of defense / Guns.

On second thought I'll take the screen out.. bottom line 3 klink ships cloaked and annoyed 6 feds... we lost but all racked up close to the mill mark (I was capt 4 at the time) some not so nice words from one of the feds.

LoL. I love that. It's a little embarrassing though when your Klink compatriots spend the entire trip from respawn complaining about Feds balling up so tight and healing so much. Obviously not the most frequent problem I admit, but it's happened on several occasions and Klinks have actually left because teams worked so well together. That's pretty weak.

I don't have a problem with hit and run tactics, I have a tac/BoP so I hit and run every so often but what annoys the hell outta me is when you get them to 15% hull and I'm still at 100% shield/hull they run and heal then jump again but still not get my shields down then they do it again and again and still not get my shields down...

I've had so many fights where people do this and still lose 15-0. The ONLY thing doing this accomplishes is dragging a fight out which there really is no reason to especially when they suck badly enough to lose 15-0.

If you're going to use hit and run tactics then PLEASE make sure you actually have a chance at beating them with it or fight to the death so we can get the lame pvp match over with. People that do this honestly remind me of flies... They're pesky lil buggers that get nowhere.

There's a guy in kerrat that does this quite often at night at RA lvl, I really don't understand why he does it... If I KNOW I can't take my target down then I'll fight to the death then avoid fighting that person again.

    I've been guilty of this.:o
Usually happens when I've been fighting without realizing that my power setting are still on "speed" and my weapons is only at 25. I really need some good power switching keybinds that I can put on my F5-F8 keys.
