Should the Lieutenant Rank be split up into 2 ranks?
They have Lieutenant Junior Grade in the series. Plus it could boost the the level cap by 5 or 10 levels.
But this might make the ship tiers not match with the ranks any more.
Since we don't know if they going to add Commodore or Vice Admiral rank to the game.
Plus Admirals are not in the role of being the main captain of a ship. That is why Kirk and Picard didn't want to be promoted.
Would it be bad to add Lieutenant Junior Grade as a full rank in the game to gain more levels for players?
As I've agreed with the billion other posts, I agree here.
Seriously, every modern U.S. force has 2 lt. grades, that are completely seperate.
In the Army, you knew that most of the 2nd Lt.s were going to be worthless (well, they're officers, so I mean even more worthless )...a 1st Lt. at least knew which was his head and which was his butt (though he often would still use both for speaking).
Oh and yes, for the slow ones,I served. This isn't a crack at the Military....more of a officer/enlisted thing that's probably been going on since Julius Ceasar...like different branches ripping on each other. I actually met a few officers who might be human one day....uh, Sir.:D
The whole ranking system needs adjusting to be honest. There shouldn't be any players above Captain. So I'd be for a Lt. Jr grade, if it covered level 11-20. Once people hit Captain from there on it should just be levels, with no promotion, while still unlocking new tier of ships as one becomes a stronger Captain.
I do agree with the OP though. Personally, I'd have much rather seen the ranks kept out of the admiralty, and leave the Admiral ranks to be special titles for Level cap players that are obtainable only through high level accolades.
Then, if you do the super hard end game stuff, you could earn the following ranks as special award titles for your accomplishments:
Rear Admiral
Vice Admiral
Admiral
And, if you did the super hard stuff as part of a Fleet (guild) you would have access to:
Fleet Admiral
Other than the rare occasion, you don't see the Admiralty commanding starships. So, why would STO have multitudes of Admirals running around as Starship commanders?
Just this alone would make a huge improvement to the immersion factor of the game.
Well don't you feel that the rank of Admiral should be fewer with players?
Also the add 10 grades so the level max could reach a higher level cap.
Also it makes room for tier 6 Ships and equipment.
Honestly, no. I do not think any of that will improve anything in any way. This topic has many threads already and has already been addressed by Cryptic. The ranks are not going to change in the foreseeable future if ever.
It is very apparent that Cryptic does not really care about these kinds of things. STO is not in any way canon supporting. Just look at the various uniforms available from the various eras as one example. If they cared about accuracy non of the older uniforms would be available and they would not be getting ready to drop them in the c-store for greater proliferation.
If immersion is you thing, if that is the reason you think this should happen, then all I can say is you must have a limited imagination if you cannot get past a few simple words.
If you want accuracy, STO is not the game for you.
I was thinking of the undead horses in the stable on the way to the Huntsman, the ones that fear you into pulling extra trash mobs, but Undead Strat would be another good example.
I think it would be cool if the npcs would respond to you based on the rank you wear or the title you have up or some option to set it. If you want to be a Captain then the NPCs should call you that regardless of what your actual level is. This would accommodate those who want to be Admirals or those who want to play lower ranks. They already have varied responses based on your level to some degree, I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to expand this some. They already include all of the ranks on our uniforms so with a little bit of adjusting we can have a better immersion experience.

Yea, I understand that too. They will have to rework the leveling and ranks again.

We're in Karazhan?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

So basically your ranks would be:
Ensign
Lieutentant, JG
Lieutentant
Lieutentant Commander
Commander
Captain
Commodore (Maybe)

Dead Strat, more likely.
"Drop, damn you! DROP!"

But for some reason they refuse to even entertain the notion of not having everyone be admirals. I just don't get it. We're missing something.
They can make money from selling access to Pakleds, they cannot make money by revising a naming convention. This should be pretty clear to anyone.
The naming title expands the level cap to other ranks. Also I think the title of Admiral is a level 60 rank.
I like to see Admirals for higher levels and level 40 seems to be mid-range for being a Admiral title.
I feel that there too many Admirals in the game to be realism to Star Trek series.
Yea, I understand that too. They will have to rework the leveling and ranks again.
