Been awhile since I been on the boards with game issues but I was playing the game 2 days ago everything going smoothly and when I was docking at DS9 the game locked up and crashed my whole computer. I was not able to recover the computer and had to do a reinstall of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. As I got the pc up and running the only things I put on it where my avast antivirus pro the latest Nvidia Geforce Driver and STO. Not soon after the computer crashed again and would not restart. After several reinstalls I did not put the new driver on and the PC seemed to be stable. I installed STO fresh and launched the updater and it just hung there in the small window where it said attempting to update updater please be patient. Well after 20 minutes nothing. SO I closed it and copy and pasted my saved STO folder from my external drive and the updater flew through all the way to patching. Sigh of relief for a little while until the updater crashed during patching. Not once, not twice but a total of five times and still not patched. I never had this issue on the intial install of the game during beta. I am stumped of all that has happened these past few days.
I am also having a similar issue if not the exact same one. This is my first time installing STO and it went smoothly enough. However every time I click the icon, nothing happens. I went to my task manager and noticed that under processes it shows "Star trek online.exe" running, with 25 CPU process. However I don't see the application running anywhere, its not minimized in my tray and it does not show in Applications running in task manager. I have been shuffling around the forums for an answer but no luck so far. I tried installing the star trek online setup patch I found on the forum. Interestingly enough after I install that and trying to launch the game I get a reaction, with the small gray update box appearing. However within seconds it closes and returns to doing nothing with star trek online.exe running exacly at 25 cpu process like its stuck or something. It use to crash when it got to that update box, but never gave an error code.

also noticed a small file called "Star trek online.exe.deleteme pops up every so often in STO folder when I try to launch game.

That error indicated some application on your system has hooks in place that prevent the launcher from starting up its UI. Some things known to cause this: Nvidia Application Firewall, Widecap, Net Nanny. It could be almost anything though :-/ Just try disabling various background programs and see if it helps.
Just reinstalled. Closed a few non essential programs running in background and deleted wincap. I didn't have wincap running during any of this but maybe it was the reason. It has finally opened the UI and is patching as I'm writing this message.
I have a lot of respect for STO tech support now, thanks to you. Its 4:00am in the morning and thanks to your input I can finally tell my dad our transition from Eve-online to STO is looking really good. Thanks again mate!
