I am new here and have purchased STO today for a big price of $99, after installing it I am now stuck with the (what seems very common) "Trying to update launcher please be patient" box on my screen. I have been reading the forum for answere's but nothing has helped, I have been trying for about 6 hours now and am getting quiet angry I have paid money for a game that simply does not work! I had this exact same problem with "Star trek legacy" full of bugs n problems. Is there anyone that could help me before I take this game back to the shop? I realy want to play this game!'

After a bit more researching here, I have run the net test a few times now and it's showing nothing is blocking my connection, but im sitting with a ping of 272ms at present due to capped broadband, could my reduced speed cause me to suffer such problems?
Some of the other things to check.
1. if using vista or win7 have the launcher and gameclient set to run as admin
2. recheck your firewall/antivirus programs to be sure the same exe are set up as exceptions and allow net access.
3. Check you IE browser is working correctly and not set to work offline or setup to use a proxy in the lan settings
also what are the complete values for the nettest results and post a tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com results

I'm having a similar problem...last couple of days actually. as soon as i start it freezes before Ii even get to the log-on screen. I last played three or so days ago and everything was fine, so ....?
I'm ****ed but not surprised eh, it happend to the star trek legacy game I bought as well, wasn't compatible with anything but windows XP and even then you had to download patches that un happy customers had to make just so you could play properly, Typical of cryptic.

If you post your nettest results we can see if you are running in to any issues. Just because there are no time outs doesn't mean your connection to the servers is healthy. You can copy and paste the results from the command prompt and selecting mark. Then right click on the marked fields and select copy.
