Crash Error and Now Can't Log In

I was warping into DS9 when an error message popped up telling me some file was read bad in the CRC and that verifying the files may help. Well I just tried to boot STO back up and it automatically verified all the files, but after it launched the same error came back up and crashed me back to desktop.

Solutions?

I just tried again and got the same error so I wrote it down:

./piggs/bins.hogg: Bin/Geobin/OI/E/1/C/O/Crd_Ds9_Qb_03.Mset File read from disk has bad CRC

remove the bin.hogg file use force verify from the launcher option and have it download a new file.

If you are using vista or win7 and have the game installed in the programs file directory and the problem reoccurs , I would reinstall the game in a different directory.

    Quote from coderanger....

Fun fact, the game will break pretty frequently if you install to Program Files under Vista or Win7 because of a new security feature called Virtual Store (short version: it intercepts and rewrites file writes inside prog files to go somewhere else). That is why it is no longer the default install location on those platforms. There is no permanent way to disable this feature of Windows, so installing outside of Program Files is the best option. The "correct" place according to MS for this would be C:\ProgramData, but more games use Users\Public\Games that we wanted to go with the clearer one. The More You Know.

STEAM installs under Program Files. If you purchased through STEAM you do not need to download from STEAM. If you entered your retail key from STEAM you can be all done with them. For a clean STO install, download from Cryptic.

I played STO with no problems since Beta, Two weeks ago I installed STEAM so I could play Portal. I had fun for three days until I tried to play STO again. STEAM had rewritten my registry and was trying to re-download the whole game client into Program Files. Boo STEAM.

I just uninstalled and then reinstalled from disk. It worked, but I wonder what caused it in the first place?
