My Inspiron 1525 does not meet the curent minimum and im wondering as to what other laptops out there could solve my problem here? I do wish to join and play, but cannot on my current system
Just for comparison, STO has about the same requirements as CoD: Modern Warfare 2.
Obviously you want a laptop with a Dual Core CPU, and at least 4 gigs of RAM (preferably DDR3). For graphics cards I recommend a minimum of NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.
allright, ill look there, im still considering a Dell Laptop since thats what i already use, but i dont want to buy something and it not work well either. Do you or anyone else happen to use laptops? and if so what make/model/company ?
Allrighty than, sounds good...hows windows 7 work w/ it?
I've never had any issues whatsoever with running STO on Windows 7. Of course I also completely turned off that stupid security feature that both Vista and Windows 7 have that tries to prevent legitimate users from running their own programs while doing nothing to actually secure your computer. I forget what it's called now.
As much as I love XP, I do not recommend using it. XP won't support more than 4 GiGs of RAM, doesn't play very well with 2 CPU Cores, and can't use 4 Cores at all. A lot of laptops that have Vista on them are for sale at very very low prices right now. Do not buy them. Vista is a [WARNING EXPLICIT LYRICS] nightmare!
For that reason I recommend Windows 7, and I recommend the 64 bit instead of the 32 bit. There are things that the 64 bit version can handle better than the 32 bit version.

Since you are looking at Dell, I play on an Inspiron 1564 with the Intel Core i3 2.13 GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, and Windows 7 64-bit. I chose the Video adapter upgrade - ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330. I definitely recommend the 64-bit Windows 7.

how easy would it be to buy new video cards/hardware for my 1525?

I doubt it will be cost-effective, if it is possible at all. Video cards generally don't seem to be among the parts you can easily exchange on notebooks.

1) Replacing a video card in a laptop is only cost-effective if you're doing it yourself. But if you had that kind of expertise you wouldn't be asking us these questions, we'd be asking them of you.
2) Absolutely do not buy a laptop if you can't be certain that the graphics card will run STO. Print that page out that I gave you the link to or write a few of them down. Sure you might save a few bucks if you buy some no-name brand from Walmart, but if you get it home and it turns out that it won't run STO then you've just wasted the full price of that laptop.
3) No netbook that exists on the planet will run STO. If it will run STO then it is not a netbook, it is a laptop.

I found some more information for you, and sent it to you as a forum Private Message. Did you get it?
I'm wondering if any of you have done a high end/low end video quality comparisons for STO. I read an article saying the difference wasn't that great yet saw a video on You Tube of STO on a maxed out system that looked way better than on my system that meets the minimum video requirements.
P.S. And where is the Dell Star Trek Online Commemorative Laptop might I ask?

With this laptop I'm able to run STO with the graphics at near maximum.
Search eBay or the website of stores in your area for something that meets or exceeds those stats and you'll be fine.
