Huge trek fan. Never buy a game upon release as they always blow.

instaled it, laucnh it login to it, it FAILS to start says contact billing and support
But its a DEMO is it not?
advertised on STEAM yet it wont let you play?
Niccceeeeeee. SWEAT! that'll get me to buy it. a demo that says I need to BUY it first. awesome tactic.
you need to activate your account as a demo account. The installer should have taken you to a page link to activate.
try this link http://www.startrekonline.com/user/free_demo_start/Cryptic
and TRIBBLE the above poster said. while steam offers it STO is not a Steam game and certain functions of steam will not work on the game (like the game restore option)

I have same issues. I wrote to customer support and they told me to use the in game help!?!?! These guys at support are lazy or stupid or both. I uninstalled it from my system. Won't be buy something when they can't ever get the demo to work. Did you try ad create support ticket? I think you will find that that doesn't work either.
The demo never opened or suggested going to the link above. I was stuck at the same place. Thanks for the link. I was VERY frustrated and already not very impressed with this game. When the damn demo won't let me play that's probably a very bad sign.
By the way, the "Add a ticket" web page links do absolutely nothing. Tried it in Chrome and IE8. In both cases the links seem to simply be there for decoration and there was no way for me to create a ticket. Yet another sign that I'm probably not going to enjoy this experience.
I spent all day yesterday downloading it, created an account, verified, logged in to the launcher, and can't play. All it says is "Account Error, please contact billing support". This is a brand new account and has not been used with any Cryptic games.
I've tried opening a ticket with billing support, but after I pick my support category nothing happens. It just sits there. There's no 'submit' button or anything. It doesn't say anything about having to do a search first (coincidentally, I DID do a search for the word "demo" and it came back with no results and told me to create a new ticket)
After some more forum searching I discovered that the demo seems to have a glitch where it doesn't mention to the user that you have to visit some magic URL to "activate a demo account" (http://www.startrekonline.com/user/f..._start/Cryptic). This is completely separate from the email verification/activation. Way to make your potential customers jump through hoops.
I don't know about anyone else, but if I have to go through all of this in order to try the game, and assuming Cryptic wants me to buy the game, then you should make it a lot easier for people to play. So far I'm not impressed.
