Software Cursor - Trailing Ghost

I'm having an issue wherein audio from any PCI or USB audio devices skips mercilessly when playing STO. This doesn't occur for my on-board sound card. Oddly, I've observed the same issue in World of Warcraft. The issue seems to center around hardware cursor, and is beyond the scope of this post. My hardware configuration (see below) is a bit of an edge case, and I therefore accept the issues that come with it, and work around them.

In any case, switching to software cursor solves the problem. The minor lag associated with this doesn't bother me in the slightest. This worked perfectly in World of Warcraft. It also works in STO. However, as soon as I re-zone after enabling the option, I get a trailing cursor, about a half second behind. This is highly distracting. I realize that there probably isn't any direct way for me to fix this issue (although suggestions are welcome) but I wanted to bring it to the Devs attention.

I should note that this issue bears a similarity to one (of many) reported on an NVidia SLI thread. One might suspect therefore that the issue is related to my Crossfire configuration, but I can assure you that the problem continues to occur even with one card disabled (or removed from the system entirely).

Vital hardware specs below. Please don't suggest that the O/C is the issue. The system is 24-hour Prime95 stable, and has no stability issues in any other application. On top of this, I have replicated the issue at stock clocks.

Intel Core i7-920 O/C to 4.0GHz
ASUS P6T X-58 Motherboard (BIOS updated to latest)
6GB DDR3-1600 RAM
2 x Sapphire 1GB Radeon HD 5870 (Catalyst 10.4)
80GB Intel X25-M G2
LG W3000H 30" Monitor (2560x1600)
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I run with the video options entirely maxed out at 2560x1600. The only exception is antialiasing, which is at 4x, and forced to adaptive (transparency) multisampling in the driver. The game plays nicely, except for the odd stutter at the start of a ground mission. Reducing the resolution alleviates the sound skipping issue somewhat, but does not remove it entirely.
