Hi,

I'm trying for a few hours now to patch the game. I downloaded the trial version through Steam.

but evrytime I try to patch the game, the download goes to around 3, 4 or 5% and then goes back to 0%...

Does anyone knows what I could do about it ?

    I don't know what a routeur is :)

I already turned off the firewall.

But apparently what you said for the proxy and now Steam is downloading. It seems to work, and now I'm 1.7GB to go :p

    Thanks !

Okay... I'm begining to think that I don't want to play or to BUY a game with so much problem just to log into it...

So this morning I started download through Steam a 1.7GB patch. Okay no problem I did it...

But now when I launch the game I have apparently a new patch to download... No problem... I had three days without work I wanted test the game I couldn't because of lots of problems of download from different solutions to download the trial version, crashes when I try to patch the game (see above the first post). So I say to myself "no problem"... One last patch I will download it and maybe I'll play to the game I tried to play three ago sometimes tonight...

And well the problem that was resolved after cjdaweasel's answer is back... Nope ! it's worse... I can't make Steam download the patch again... So now I'm stuck with the launcher, and the launcher doesn't work. Always go back to 0% after downloading 10%... And, I must say I begin to even have a doupt : 1.7GB of patch later there is still new patches ? Or is it the same that I downloaded through Steam but the game doesn't recognise it ?

Does anyone have a new idea please on how to deal with this ?

But I'm not even sure of what I want to do now... I never saw a game that hard to launch, with that much problems to download it or to simply connect. It is not only because of connection problems to the servers... It is also a lot of problems with clearly not clear informations, missing links or links very hard to find on the official website... Will my second question is, is it that hard to find something or to simply play ingame ? Because even if I do succeed at having the possibility to play the trial, I'm not sure I want to buy a game 50 € to discover right after my purchase that I can't play without huge links problems, informations missing, etc...

Clearly all of this doesn't give me the wish to buy a game that I haven't tested yet !!!

Anyway if someone can help me on my current problem thanks for your help.

Okay so now I have a begining of an answer : when the launcher tried to patch the game, it seems it unistalled parts of the game. Then when it retried to patch it, the game wasn't full anymore. So the simple way was then to ask Steam to "repair" it. (according to steam, it was a clean version before the patcher was launched as I always verify the game trhough the steam tool before playing a game...)

So now I'm back at downloading some GBs to repair the game the patcher apparently messed up with.
    :(

There's been issues reported with Steam and STO before (and STO doesn't natively use a lot of Steam functions, in a way, Steam is just banother outlet of downloadable purchasefor STO - so if you have problems with the STO client via steam, as long as you have a valid STO retail key tied to the account, you could download the client, install and run the patcher independently of the Steam front end interface.

    Thanks for this reply...

However my problem is not with Steam. My problem is with the STO patcher. It's the patcher that mess with the game files and it's the patcher that doesn't work properly...

Steam doesn't speak our data files, so restoring it back to the last patch we gave Valve will simply overwrite everything wholesale. We do not use Steam's update facility, in fact it should be entirely disabled for any game tagged as an MMO. If this is not the case please report it to Valve tech support (please also mention that it is with STO so they can come to me if they need more info).
