I see a lot of post about people loving the game, I see a lot of people posting about hating the game. I am one of the few people in the middle and I never see many topics from people like me so I figured I would speak out how I feel about the game.
This is my first MMO never played one before, when I first got the game I loved it. The first part of the game was great and I loved it maybe alittle to much because I maxed my character out within the first week. Since then things have been iffy.
We got the STF missions which the first 1 or 2 were great It gave me something to do and it was challenging. After the first couple though it gets boring to me. Each one is pretty much the same exact thing to me with just the story change. It all boils down to fight my way to here, hit some switches, drop some shields, or something along those lines then fight a boss.
That has pretty much been the nature of the whole game though, which is not a bad thing. The thing I do not like about STF's is that they take so long to complete. I have to play with random groups of people so these things take forever and I do not have the time to do them. I might be able to get one done on the weekend but its so much time and do not feel worth doing to me.
PVP is alright to me but it just really does not keep my interest.
I had a lot of friends that played MMO's tell me about all this cool gear and it was so hard to get. I was looking forward to this in STO but turns out all the Rare stuff is something simple that everyone can get just do your daily missions. Daily missions are really boring to there long and all the same as well.
I look at the engineering reports and check the threads daily looking for something that is really going to bring me back into the game and I am just not finding anything. I am giving this a shot cause I really want this game to be good and I really want to enjoy it and I think it could be great.
One thing that has made me mad though is all the things that were stated were going to be in the game then did not make the cut. I been following the Broken promises thread. I understand that you guys got excited and talked about stuff you wanted in. I understand that it got broken or you did not have the time to put it in. You still got my hopes up on this to make this up to me when you make the next game your working on if its not 100 percent in the game do like most companies do and don't even talk about it that way we dont get our hopes up.
I know some people would have just left the game but I know you guy's can not work on the game without people paying to play it. That is the major reason why I have not stopped my subscription yet. I'm giving you guys another chance a chance to change things and make it better. I have been for along time since most of the time I never play anymore.
Don't waste this and make me feel dumb for doing this though. I'm going to hang in there till season 2 cause things got a little better with season 1 but I am really on the fence. Give me something other to do then the same type kill them all missions, give me some real rare gear drops and different types of gear. Make stuff look different I mean if I get a rare from a drop make it look different from a rare from a store even if its got the same stats something little like this would give me something to work for and I would love it. Little things like that mean something to me lets not forget people out there like me.
I doubt anyone from the staff will read this or respond. I doubt anyone from the community does, or maybe I will get flamed but this is how I feel.
You are not alone.
I need a satisfying Season 2.
If not, i'm unsubscribing.
I promised myself i'd give Cryptic 6 months to begin to make this more of a Star Trek game.

OP, I am afraid you going to be disappointed. At the very least concerning the gear and loot drops. Honestly, I think season 2 will be a good step forward but I don't see much really getting better till after season 3.
Even then I think there is a caveat. I think that those of us that have been here from the beginning will enjoy some of the stuff coming out but we just don't have the outlook of a new player. To some of us it will look incremental at best and haphazard at the worst. The overall point in that is that if you like the game or what to like the game then stay and support the game. If you are waiting for the developers to give you a reason to further your like of the game then all you do is set yourself up for disappointment.
I agree with Atomic. If you're not into the basics of the game by now then I cant imagine any kind of magic update that will change your mind. Maybe, a year later one could return and be blown away but putting all the chips on Season 2 and letting it ride will lead to many sad Vulcan Pandas.
It's not that there aren't a lot of people in the middle - its that people in the middle don't typically get worked up enough to post, and that Cryptic prays night and day that in the middle is interested enough to keep subscribing.
I let my account lapse after the 30 day mark (I found the entire IDEA of a "45 day patch" abusive of the customer base). I'm only back on now because they FINALLY got the Mirror Universe uniform content that I purchased with the belief it would be available at launch as advertised. I come back to a collection of endgame content built around the least appealing part ofthe game (ground combat in a game where you don't have enough skill points to be a fully capable space and ground captain) and a set of impending nerfs that, regardless of their effect on my personal character choices seem geared to slow down an already sluggish play experience in an attempt to slow down the leveling experience.
I expect to allow my acount to lapse a second timen and check in again in another few months to see if the game is out of beta yet and the Devs are sufficiently content with the game to not be totally rebuilding it every third patch. Might even be some new misions by then . I suspect when Romulans become playable I'll give them money again and see where things stand.
Im in the middle but I keep playing because I love Star Trek. I am hoping for something meaningful in the upcoming updates.
With the last major update I was happy that the purple items were expanded to all weapon types not just one. The nerfs were either to much or not enough. One might say they were aggravating.
I thought buying a lifetime sub would give me a special perk of some kind but Im either to dumb to find it or its not there. (besides not paying every month)
Every multi-player game I have handed over $40 to $80 for has had MAPS.. Lots of them-maybe not lots but more then 1 capture and hold and 3 pvp. Different types of goals. Maybe 3 different types of game play on the same map but at least you could change it up a bit. I primarily play a Klingon. Meaning I play mostly PVP. I know there are Feds out there that like pvp.. I want more killing fields...
How about a few more ship choices...
Before we get a third playable faction how about finishing the first two?
Being able to put points in ground AND space skills would be nice. I hate ground combat so I put my points in space skills. To my dismay the updates put me on the ground and the final purple drop was a rifle I couldn't sell..
Its like being married to a hot woman you started out being madly in love with only to find out she smokes crack and burns you with cigarettes while your sleeping. When you wake up your highly irritated and you hope she will change but in the back of your mind you fear that she won't...
