self destruct, what happens? (besides the obvious)

I've had the self destruct button for a while. If I push it what happens to my ship and equipment? Is there a wait time and I get it all back or do I have to go purchase a new ship?

Self destruct just lets you die on command and you just respawn like usual.

self destruct hasn't worked for me for weeks now. does nothing but display escape pods leaving my ship when I press it.

Me too. Can't be sure, but I think you may have to push the button again after 3 seconds.

Haven't tried it lately, but it's supposed to blow you up causing damage to ships near to you, like dying enemy ships do to you.

You'll do that anyways, with or without the skill. When your warp core breaches, if the enemy ships are within 2km of you, they get damaged.

Right now I can't get it to work... so much for self-destructing in the middle of a group of players outside of Sol Station. That was one of my favorite abilities just because blowing up AFK players is fun.

Yeah but self destruct lets you time it yourself, IE you can time it so you activate it then explode next to an enemy rather than let them blow you up while they're out of range.

I find it gives a nice fireworks effect and the NPC laughs, recharges shields and waits for you to do it again.. useless ability, would rather have a deluxe cup holder instead.
