OK, STO crafting 101...the simple, correct solution

ok, cryptic, please take note..this is how to do crafting..with your current engine.

make 3 lists of all the stuff that you want to be craftable

1- Weapons..ship and otherwise
2- Ship systems and kit type stuff
3- other ...stims, uniforms, pets talking plant ..whatever

ok, include a new skill in the tree....take a guess, crafting

each rank a captain will automatically improve in crafting..however, if they invest skill points in it, it goes
up faster.

also,

If your tactical..you get extra points on crafting from weapon list, ..engineering, the same on
systems list.....science gets extra points on the other list.

each item on the lists have a skill number required to make it.

OK memory alpha still collects all that junk, however..they trade it for recipies, the more you trade..
the more recipies you can get...however, if a fleet bud knows the recipy for glow in the dark tribles,
they can share that with you.

materials to make the stuff can either be produced in a replicator...with energy credits, found as
loot, or in some rare items, recieved as end reward.

Memory Alpha is the repository of information, not a store....they teach you how to make it, then
you can make as many as you want...if you have the materials.



This is not rocket science.....
Current memory alpha is a failed idea.........change it, fix it, move on.

    no, that is barder or a store.

    it is not crafting if I have to give THEM x number of this and that for an item...that is trade.

    crafting is...ok, I know how to make (item) just find the parts need and make it myself.

    I agree with you Fungus we do need a better crafting system, but you said is the same thing. no matter what crafting it is, it is still trading items for better item. you trade parts, ore, hide, or chemical. and you are limited to what you can selected by your skil., when crafting you trade in the items, ( and depending on quality, and skill ) and you get an item out of that. sure you can work to get better items, but it is still trading items for better items. But I agree we need a better system.

    did you even look at the image? it's not trading anything for items, it's crafting additional stats onto existing gear
