Playing with others at RA5 with tier 5 ships...

Really bugs me..... You build a character upto cap. Pick a ship you love... spend time customising it, name it... But everyone you can play with has the same tier of ship.

Wheres the mixed fleet.... shown here:

I think it would be much more fun if we had big mixed fleets..... Like a miranda is being pounded on by 2 vorcha class cruisers, and you sweep in with your star cruiser, eng team the miranda, and draw fire while you kick the boot in the klingons.

Or 2 Novas' move through the fleet flanked by a squad of Defiants' picking of threats, the Novas' are on there way to VM a klingon carrier, so the fleet escorts and assualt cruisers can duke it out.

How Immense would this be!

Im not so much talking about refits here, but just the ability to play along with smaller ships, maybe the guys flying the Novas' are really LtC's.... Not RA's being nostalgic.

The sidekicking feature that is upcoming is supposed to help with that part but I still think refits would help too.

Oddly enough it is easier to do Kling side then Fed side.

Take for example a D7 has the same weapon slots and hull strength as a T5 BOP. Less console and BO slots yes but still enough to make you effective.

Fed side, not too good of an idea to try.

i agree, it'd be fun to be able to do a fleet action with a whole bunch of different tier/level players,
and this will become possible with the sidekicking feature, you'll be able to bring your ltc fleet mates with you on your infected run and not worry about them asploding all the time XP

a refit woldn't help with this, he wants to do a fleet action with an ltc esentually....if he wanted everybody to be all tier 5 he wouldn't have comment about a tier 5 being nostagic

would just be nice to have a mix of ship types, levels, experiences etc.

So you sometimes get the things above. Where you have to go to the rescue of a lower tier captain. Or a lower tiered ship is faster than a higher counter part so they get sent in to do a strike.

From what I've read, sidekicking allows you to add or lose levels to temporarily run a mission with friends.

In theory, everyone could run Starbase 24 in the ship of their choosing. :)

In EVE this was accomplished (in tournament fleet engagements) by restricting each side to a specific number of value spend which meant not everyone could be present in a capital ship. Some of the smaller version also specialised for tasks the bigger ships could not perform (such as tacklers etc).

Here we can have fleet engagements perhaps by using a similar system but perhaps restricted for tier. Lets say a full fleet engegement either side is allowed to bring 5 ships from each tier. As even a tier 1 ship can have MKX equipment they can still maintain effectiveness and reflect on the fact that they are less advanced ships hence the lack of the more advanced tier capabilities. I know I would not object playing in a tier 1 or 2. I found combat on those tiers much more fun and the limited ability selection made it more important to pick the right time to use them .

Another idea is to have a set number reflecting the overall value of tiers allowed (each point representing a tier so that a tier 5 is worth 5 points) and let each side decide how mnay vessels of each tier they bring in.

Both those ideas could be used also in certain STF or missions and fleet actions (if part of a specific fleet) and could introduce common missions for all level players at the same time.

So I am in full support of the notion and it would be great if we could see more mixed fleets in the future. :D

As someone who plays with a lot of Fleet-mates of different levels I'm happily looking forward to the Squad System. When I'm doing their missions I always feel like I'm stealing their thunder and XP and when they're doing mine I always feel like I need to protect them. The Squad System fixes both of those issues.

I don't think this will be very popular. Leveling down, yeah I highly doubt people will want to do that. Sidekicking is a bad idea and I am sure it will fail.
