The "Perfect" STO

You know, after reading a lot of posts about the things people like and (mostly) dislike about his game, I have come to an interesting conclusion.

The "Perfect" version of STO would be an amalgamation of the current game, Star Trek Bridge Commander (mainly its ships, the add on ships on the web, and its player interface), Eve Online (for its massive universe and immersive planetary environments) and Elite Force ( for its ship interiors).

Of course you would need tons more missions and a bug free code base; but hey, we are dreaming here. :D

Since I work as an IT administrator for a commercial software company, I truly understand the challenges of software design. Games are even more complicated to code because of the additional content required for objects and graphics.

I hope this game prospers and blossoms into what we all want it to be.

I just think that too many posters on this forum have a very unrealistic view on what it takes to write code. The process is very long and time consuming. AND, most software developers would rather spend time working on new features and tools than debugging and fixing old code. That is probably why there are so many bugs as yet unfixed. I know that in my company, there are 10 times as many developers working on new code as there are working on debugging and patching. I guess that model extends to all software endeavors.

Anyway, good luck Cryptic.

    This makes perfect sense. Take all of the best traits of other games and make a really good MMO! Well even if they only took all the best traits of previous Star Trek games we would still have a great game. Why did they not take some of the Elite force FPS style gameplay for ground missions. I gues that weould be to easy!

    Probably a licensing or IP (Intellectual Property) issue. Read: $.;)

    the perfect STO can be summarized in 4 words:

    Just like the shows.

    Unfortunately in order for that to happen they would need an immense amount of processing power, not to mention all the programming to make it seem like the real world. An entire open environment, not loading screens, instances etc. Its just not going to happen.

    I'm happy with the game right now, and I do see this game becoming amazing.

    If STO were just like the shows, I'd have spent 7 seasons and 4 movies waiting for Wesley Crusher to sod off already.

    Plus, there'd be the obligatory "we can be funny too" episodes that felt ham-fisted and cliched.

    I'm afraid the perfect game is like the perfect woman - it's an entirely subjective idea.

    The "Perfect" STO is a day dream, it doesnt exist and will never exist. You cant please everyone, and obviously this title is such a wide meaning to soo many people, it has become very controvseral.

    If certain Star Trek shows cant satisfy all the fans, like VOY or ENT, why would we think that a game could?

    That's not entirely true. The perfect STO wont' exist in our lifetiem, but way into the future when video games can be exact replicas of the real world, or any world we desire. I wish I could live long enough to see that.

    My lifetime is what I care about, no offense. I have no doubt that soon (couple hundred years) we will have high def holodecks and xbox 72000 and a PS35. This will be after all our bones turn to dust. Could be that 12/21/2012 is the end anyways, and we all die with disappointments.

    haha i was just busting your chops. To be honest we are close to what i was saying, a lot of video games seem very realistic, take Assassins Creed for example. Holographic technology is actually progressing forward and actually exists in some form. It is no where near the way ST has it, but we are slowly getting there.

    Actually in 2012 the world as we know it is supposed to end, not that we all die. In other words there are supposed to be major changes in either the world itself, or humanity. If any of it is true or not I don't know. We may very well all just die. Who knows.

    Your numbers are wrong. THE television series ran for three seasons, not 7, and there were 6 movies.

    The "perfect" STO would be something like X3 Reunion but with Star Trek...coupled with Birth of the Federation, Starfleet Command, and ST: Elite Force. Basically, something that STO isn't and can't be made to be. I wasn't as disappointed in STO as I was in STL, but it is still disappointing.

    TNG was the only series to feature Wesley Crusher.

    I did sit through 7 seasons of TNG and 4 TNG movies concerning the Next Generation Crew (which involved Wesley).

    ToS = 3 Seasons
    TNG = 7 Seasons
    DS9 = 7 Seasons
    VOY = 7 Seasons
    ENT = 5 Seasons

    Wes was in TNG not ToS. The movies he counted was TNG not TOS....
