I'm no fan of furries but virtually all added variety to physical appearance is welcome to this game.

In fact, I wish developers would highlight some of the new "alien" pieces they create that get patched in without much thank you or warning. For example, Tribble has two sets of Telaxian hair that weren't avilable last month.

You only say that because it's actually true and you're trying to deny the scrutiny and thus deny your inner shame at being a closet furry.

**** being a closet furry, I'll openly admit it.

But no, I still think that person needs to shut their yap, also, just a note, if you don't like me being a furry, I got two letters for you, TS.

Whats the big fuss about playing a character that looks like a cat? Yea its in the lore but there are plenty of races out there, why cats?

This is why I oppose Caitians or any other anthropomorphic animal race in Star Trek or any other genre. No matter how often furries try to deny it, it's always a sexual thing. Always.

I will support you and your campaign to rid STO of the gorn!

Lol, I don't count the Gorn because they were never meant to be anthropomorphic crocodiles or whatever, and only bear a passing resemblance to reptiles on earth. They also get a free pass for showing up in the original series and being a part of established canon (TAS will never count).

It's the anthropomorphic cat/dog/fox/ferret/horse/whatever crowd that I do not agree with.

Oh, and there were 2 Caitians in the 4th movie, perhaps you should rewatch it, assuming you ever watched it a first time. Also, the TAS Caitian, M'Ress, was voiced by Gene Roddenberry's wife so ya,

Also, obligated "reported" post as well.

I'll join the movement. I like Caitians.

So what? It's better than having the current "aliens".

To quote Mirana Sirtis (Deanna Troi) "We'll have non-human aliens when we get non-human actors"

    Why Caitians ?

    OK

    1. There are a number of fans of the star trek animated series, and a major character was Caitian
    2. There are a large number of fans from the wing commander series and Caitians are slightly similar
    to the kilrathi
    3. Caitians are pleasant to look at...compared to say...borg
    4. Caitians are graceful and a bit 'artsey'...and many players share those traits
    5. Some folks just like cats.

    Pick a reason.

If you don't wanna play a Caitian...you don't have to.

Biggest reason why they need the Caitian option......drum roll.

It will bring more people into the game, and some folks are willing to pay money to play one.

You are confusing Furries with what is simply a none human race.

I spent enough time in Second Life avoiding Furries (hate them). There I was heavy into role playing and any sim that permitted (true) furries I didn't go near. However I do want to play a Caitain as I thought M'Ress was cool when I was a kid. So for me its nostalgic.

Caitains are a canon felinoid race. Not some random half human/creature hybrid someone has created for some dodgy reasons, which is what a Furrie is. I also mostly play female characters, yet I have no interest in being one in real life or dating anything but a woman. If someone can't see the different between dodgy behavours and someone that simply liking an appearance, then its their problem and need to be more secure in themselves.

I would however agree adding such elements to the Alien character creator would be a bad idea, as we would then end up with Furries.

First off, who are you to judge someone by what they like or don't like? Personally, I don't like people who are sexual deviant furries (I had a friend who was just scary when it came to this thing), but there are a lot of people who aren't all about the fetishism. I am a fan all things Trek, and I like the Caitians. I was a fan of M'ress ever since I saw the Animated Series and look forward to (hopefully) seeing them put in the C-Store in the near future.

I really don't see the Caitian or just say cat people and sex connection

    Kirk + alien woman sex..........yes
    Orion women + sex.........yes
Betazed (nakid at most events) + sex.........yes
Vulcans and that 7 year 'itch' + sex.............yes

and all that is in game or in canon already........where is the indignation on all of that?

ok, in the brief parts of the star trek movies and the animated series where were Caitian deplicted
as a sexual item/force/plot note or whatever ?

    No place......at all

So your issues with Caitians are not about Caitians, they are about something else, some where
    else...with someone wearing a fursuit.

Take your issues else where.......thank you

    Hypocrit < look it up

I hate to break it to you, but human beings have been engaging in anthropomorphism for a long, long time. By recognizing human traits in non-human things, we can better identify with them.

Don't believe me? Check what I am saying then.

Lion man of the Hohlenstein Stadel - 32,000 years ago, someone decided to make that statue...

So yeah, anthropomorphism isn't anything new...indeed, in the "aliens" of Star Trek, we see reflections of ourselves...in Vulcans, the conflict between logic and emotion....in Klingons, barbarity and nobility...these "aliens" are reflections of our own emotions, used as a vehicle for telling stories about the one thing we all share...the human condition.

Personally, I don't care if they put Caitians in the game or not...I think Cryptic is foolish for turning away money by not putting them in, but they can run their own business however they please. I won't be buying Caitians, but for the people who want to, they should be allowed to.

Finally, what you need to understand that just like Star-Trek Fandom, there are levels of furry fandom as well...most of them are normal, well-adjusted individuals that are perfectly fine...the problem is, you never see them or hear them...you hear and see the crazies, the ones that take it too far, because they are loud, and draw far more attention to themselves.

When you hear about Star Trek fans in the media, on the web, and in various other places, do you hear about the normal person who watched and enjoyed the shows with his or her family? That has a job, a car, a house and a family?

Or do you hear about the person who speaks Klingon fluently, goes to public events in his Fleet Admiral uniform, or writes all too involved or disturbing fanfiction about situations never explored in the series?

I'm willing to bet that most people think of the latter, and not the former. It's the same thing with furry fandom...they''ve got a silent majority, and a radical, over-the-top minority. You should really learn to distinguish between the two, before going all half-cocked on the people here who want their virtual avatars to have pointed ears and furry tails.

Interesting- I guess if the borg can be playable, I dont have a problem with you folks wearing cat suits.

    O.o

Otherwise, no borg, no cats. :(

Maybe we're in the same boat

    Maybe not.

Here's an ore, come on in, the waters freezing.

By the way-If you manage to pull off an assimilated Caitain, thank me later.

I'm Marcos Aguila and I approve this message.

I find it interesting that everyone who wants the Catains has to be a furry or into cat girls.

I find it unlikely that every single person who wants them in the game has a thing for cat people.

Myself, I am not a furry, but I have no ill will to furries or those who like cat people or other amorphic human hybrid people.

To quote myself from another tread:
    Raso wrote:
To me, cats represent power. I'm a big history buff and into foreign cultures, so I'm familiar with how cats are represented in other societies. Those ideas have rubbed off on me and the various metaphors for cats, especially larger ones, often have them representing power and grace.

Cat's (large or small) are powerful, clever and stealthy. They're awesome predators. Subconsciously, when we see a large cat we know to keep away from them, they use to hunt us. Given the chance they still will.

Thus, a human shaped felidae creature would likely represent those powers and grace. It would make an awesome tactical officer.

If you see a big, scary tiger coming at you and you've never seen a big, predatory cat before you'll likely start to feel very nervous and apprehensive. That's an instinctual reaction, by default we fear large cats. We have genetic memory (or what ever) that tells us they are dangerous and to be careful. Thus, if you see a humanoid cat coming at you with a bat'leth you'll likely be thinking some place in the back of your head "I'll bet they're faster and stronger than humans and probably as smart or smarter."

Same with large lizards, which is why the Gorn worked as a race, they were symbolic of large predatory lizards. The first time you say one you likely thought to yourself "I'll bet they're very strong and powerful, more so than a human"

If you search you wills ee some screen shots and some talk about them....they where almost completed at that time...however it seams they got pushed back. Becasue being the type of people they are...i think the cryptic team decided to not only work on them but on some other stuff too...that will compliment the caitians....

Now my own personal hope is that it has something to do with the related other cat races that where prevailent in star fleet battles......

aslo someof the developers have been being naughty and playing a certain super hero game instead......i have seen one or two of them late at night doing some pvp.

That and you're just an idiot as the Gorn can still be considered a furry type creature, or in this case, a scalie.

Honestly, I have no problem with Furries. One of my best friends is a Furry.

My issue is with the morons threatening (and even going as far as acting on those threats) to leave the game because they can't play a cat.

And don't give me that "but they broke a promise" line. Are you really telling my you payed for the game and have decided to leave because you can't be a cat? Those people are idiots, or at least short-sighted. Who in their right mind pays for a game and quit because they can't play one race? I don't understand. Surely it must be easier to yiff in an IRC chatroom, and certainly cheaper. If you want cats and only cats that bad, you shouldn't have bought a Trek game.

And, of course, thank you to all of you looking forward to Caitians and have a brain in your skulls. You reaffirm my faith in both Furries and humanity.

    *sigh*

I'll go back into my obscure corner now. Thank you for listening.

Oh, I haven't quit playing yet, I still have my account, and to be honest, I'd much be rather playing with my Gorn character, but can't due to how butchered the Klingon side is compared to the Federation side.

Having issue with the rage/quiters because of the lack of Caitians...eh..I might bite on that a bit.
But that is thier choice I guess.

I had discontinued playing for several reasons

    lack of klingon content
    lack of content in general
    ect.
missing caitians were by far just a very small part of it.

    OH, I am back
not because caitians are coming...I hope they are coming though,
it is because UGC might be coming, so I want some input on that.

    So I am back
