I have played Infected three times but have not been able to get to the end of the first part. Now I understand why so many people only want team members who have already played the missions.
It would be nice if there were a single player version of the Borg missions, or a version for two players. It's easier to find one person than finding four or five (is five possible?).
All three times that I have played, people have had to leave because it takes beginners a long time to finish.
I won't try it again with experienced players because I am too slow for them.
Have you tried to play with experienced players? I'm sure there are some who are willing to do it with you.
I haven't done them yet, but frankly I don't think there should be a 1 or 2 player version of it.
Maybe my idea is not a good idea and yes, I have played twice with people who have played the missions before. That is why I now understand why it is so hard finding people willing to play with a team of first-timers.

And why exactly is that? More options is never a bad thing. Since the Devs obviously have the tech(difficulty slider), theres no reason they shouldnt use it when designing new content like STFs. People who want to solo it(with not as good drops) can do so, and those who want a really hard challenge with good drops can do so as well.
i haven't tried any of the joint missions and i really have no intention of ever doing so. they don't interest me. i'd rather see development of open instance fleet missions.

I agree with your statement to a point, but had to add the 'yet' because I would someday like to see the STFs adjusted so that 1-5 people could do them at difficulties depending on the number of team members.
They have the slider now, so one would think that in the near future implementing varying degrees of difficulty based on team strength shouldn't be too hard.

The tech is definitely there for it to be done. My only reasoning behind it is that it forces a multiplayer experience that the majority of the game lacks. If it is made to change difficulty based on the number of team members then for the most part, people will choose to solo it over doing it in a group. I'm not saying everyone will, but most will.
Don't get me wrong, if they did make it an option or set it up so the difficulty would change, I won't complain nor would I go on a crazy temper tantrum threatening to quit and wanting a refund. I would just go ahead and do the STFs by myself.
The concept of MMO gaming is always going to be about a balance between Casual and Hardcore gamers. I really don't have a big problem with that. The problem I do have with STFs is that STO is so devoid of end-game content, and gets to level cap so quickly, that STFs are the only thing left for Casual gamers to do - yet they can't complete them because of the difficulty factor. Thus you're depriving an entire segment of your fan-base from the only end-game content you're currently offering. Cryptic needs to understand that its player-base have different degrees of player-skill and that making the only end-game content for the most skilled is an insult to the rest of the community. Right now Cryptic needs to lessen the difficulty of the STFs. In the future, when there's a more-viable end-game put in place, Cryptic can look at re-establishing the difficulty of the STFs but for right now they need everyone to be able to have access to that content.

This morning I finished a B'Tran daily and as I was heading to the battle group, a couple of people were looking to do "The Cure" and they asked if I would join them. These were people I did not know and they just picked me at random. I would have joined but I explained that I had not done "Infected". Infected is a prerequisite to "The Cure", is it not?
I have given up on finishing Infected since I have started it three times but not been able to finish because more experienced people thought it was taking too long and they left.
