My game keeps crashing in ground combat

I'll be 1/2 way done, or just about to complete the last objective when the screen freezes, and the game crashes to desktop. A usual symptom of this happening is large amounts of lag/choppy frames. I've tried turning the graphics down, so I don't think that's the problem. Does anyone else have this problem? Sometimes I can play for an hour with smooth results, but other times, it will crash 10 times in an hour.

Setup :
O/S: Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics : ATI 4890 X2 (Crossfired)
MOBO = Asus m4 series
Drivers = All up to date

    Yeah, happens to me all the bloody time, and I have similar specs to you guys.

    Core i7-950
    ATI Radeon 5870
    Windows 7 64-bit

    Sounds like its an ATI problem rather than a problem with the game itself. I'm on nVidia GeForce 9800 and its working fine for me.

    Have you updated your graphics drivers lately? If so, did this start after the update? Roll back your drivers and see if it helps.

    If you haven't updated them then try that and see what happens :)

    main problem on ATI cards is use of dynamic lighting. (drivers don't like it in game) Most fix crashes by turning dynamic lighting off
    and/or reducing the number of lights used
    and or turning off or reducing shadows.

    turning down is not the same as turning off. you can lower some setting and still have dynamic lighting turned on.
