Is the game playable with less than min. req. specs?

Hello all,

I would like some feedback regarding playing the game with less than the min. required specs.

Long story short, I exceed the required specs in all categories except the processor - I have a 1.66 Core 2 Duo and the box wants a 1.8...

Anyone playing the game with less than recommended PC stats?

I know people who are playing with less that min specs. its usually with the video card though, all they have to do is turn down the resolution and it runs smooth. I'm sure it will be fine.

ive played with a single core and it worked ok. they always overstate it a little so it should work, although dont quote me on that.

personally i think it will be fine. maybe see if you can get a demo or something

The Video options of this game allow you to select Half-Resolution for any settings you may have.

My friend's mother says his wife's brother plays STO on his son's i-Berry

Yeah it'll work a little under min. reqs. For the first couple of months I was running on a 1.7 Duo, and Radeon X1400. Sometimes the game ran as smooth as it does now with my high performance computer, other times it was like hitting a wall of lag. Really depended on where I was, but it wasn't "unplayable".

    back to OP...

yes it is possible, i even did first weeks of gaming...

but you will have to play on absolute minimum grafic-settings
and even then sometimes some maps will be unplayable by lags...
so with missing the grafic quality and some patience until you hit playable maps it is possible,
but meanwhile i was able to upgrade my system and i enjoy it A LOT more...

you will manage fine with that processor. You'll likely find longer load times for transitions but should manage ok.

Why not download and play the demo ( which you can then use to play with if you later buy the game ) so you can know for sure if it plays ok?

That's the graphics processor rather than the CPU. the X1400 is a 2d business display and will struggle on high poly games.

Yeah, I just listed my CPU specs cause I wanted to show it was lower than his (and lower than the minimum) but still worked fine. The deal about my graphics card was just extra info. I'm now at a 2.8 quad with a Radeon HD 5670. :D

well if we have to compare then I have a few systems. one with an HD4890, my media machine with 2x 9800GTX in SLi and my gamer with 2x 295GTX in SLi on 2 32" monitors :) All quad Phenoms.

I'd really like to get a 5970, but that alone would cost almost as much as my entire computer did.....

It is not unplayable, but it can be a bit unejoyable at times. I'm running WELL below system specs and have played the game since open beta. I've leveled to RA5 on said machine, but as late have not played nearly as often. Probably because I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm sick of dealing with a few unplayable maps. All that said, it is important I restate it is playable and not so frustrating as to stop playing before I've reached endgame.
