When I bought my "Digital Deluxe Edition".. I decided to purchase it from "Direct 2 Drive" because I felt that their retailer bonus items were more fitting for my needs. Now, some time into the game, I've realized that a number of my friends use the "Steam Community" instant messenger, and since I own the "Orange Box" games from Valve, they of course utilize "Steam" as their launcher/update hub.
Since I've got Steam installed anyways, I was wondering if anyone might know if there's a way to "register" my purchased copy of STO with the Steam system, so that I can get all the Steamage in regards to "PodSix is playing Star Trek Online"... right now I've got the pre-installed app shortcutted into my games list, but when I play, it shows up as "PodSix is playing a non-steam game".. lots of help there.
I'm not a super expert when it comes to these sort of things.. frankly the entire concept of Steam is a bit baffling to me. But is it possible to get STO "plugged in" properly to my steam console thing? or am I just going to have to live with it being "a non-steam game" because I chose to buy from D2D instead of Steam?
Adding STO as a non-Steam game will allow you to chat with friends thru the Steam overlay. But there is no way for you to earn Steam-specific points or whatnot. And unfortunately it will always show up as a "non-Steam game".
You CAN use the "Add Non-Stem Game" to your Steam Game library, this enables you to use the messenger service while in-game, however, your playtime is not recorded, there are no stats etc.
