First of all i just want it to be known that im NOT a trekie fan. More of a everything Space fan, but if i had to choose i would choose the Stargate Lore over all. With that being said when i first heard of a space MMO that lets one customize pretty much everything and able to leave one's shipto walk around i was excited and waited for my day in beta.... that came was disappointed, but i know this is a MMO an ever evolving game right? so here i am now holding on by a thread just waiting for the Season 2 update with ship interiors and all the other content... but thats just it waiting... im almost about done with waiting when MMO's such as APB, SWTOR, FFXIV, and GW2 are starting to throw around their weight and do they have a lot of weight. Not only that after playing STO for a bout a month i went to go play ME2 today as i read about the new DLC thats coming out soon and was stunned by the graphics lol. I would have to admit that STO's graphics are acceptable at best but compared to their competitors they are lacking way behind. This is just a taste of whats wrong with the game... Im not here to bash this game in anyway in fact i still have a little fun still in the game with RP, but thats pretty much it. I actually still have high hopes for this game but probably wont be coming back for at lest a year

Not to mention the announcement that Cryptic is already in development of another MMO when they should fix this one.. but i wont re-hash this as its been talked to death already... idk where im really going with this thread im just sad to be leaving a game that had great potential but was ruined by bureaucracy and contracts...(CBS, Atari, and any other hold ups that is keeping Cryptic from getting the job done)
So in all i raise my glass to you Cryptic and wish yall the best and hope yall can fix this mess of a game before the new generation of games runs right over you because they're close on yalls heels.
Go in peace and Be in light every single one of you

I can agree with nearly everything but this. on my machine the graphics look great. then again i do play on high at max res, and a good sized monitor.
anyone I hope you have fun, and do come back some time you hear.
aye i also play on max setting on a 22 inch 1080p monitor and i do agree the graphics are acceptable but when compared to Cryptic's competitors is where they come up short thats what i was trying to say lol
EGVA 295 SLI with 1080p 32inch for me, so I agree the graphics are pretty damn good.
Agreed. For the first two or three months, I was playing this game on the lowest settings. But once I got a computer capable of running this thing on full graphics, I was amazed. This game is very pretty. Not ME2 pretty, but that's not necessarily a bad thing IMO. There's already enough TRIBBLE the computer has to go through and process just cause it's an MMO. ME-styled graphics would make even my brand new rig cringe.
thats the thing though lol they're only pretty damn good... not jaw-dropping like most of the games that are currently out and are about to come out
i dont see the validation in that ME graphics would break one's computer if they were implemented into an MMO just because thats precisely what Bioware is doing with SWTOR
i wouldn't really call SWTOR jaw Dropping. SWTOR in fact they look kind of cartoon like. ( but that is my opinion )
Now I would call this Jaw dropping.
Oh your trolling. Ok it makes sense now. There is no way anyone would realistically compare SWTOR graphics to ME.
agree...they are cartoonish looking.
this is why i have avoided MANY MMOs in the past and will do so in the future.
to the OP:
i think the STO graphics are great, and if you have the PC and GPU to produce the graphics as cryptic has presented for play, then they by far outdo many mmo's for this aspect. it is not cartoonish and it feels more real then playing other MMOs that are cartoon like in nature.
textures when maxed out are awesome..reflections are awesome, water reflections and waves are awesome...
i gues i like the graphics and dont agree with your statement.
but then again, each person has ones own likes and dislikes...so i can accept you dont like them, but i dont agree that you think they are worse then many games out there already.
They add to the game but no they are not what makes or breaks an MMO.
Gameplay, mechanics etc is what makes an MMO.
Heres the thing. You don't have to like STO, you don't even have to like MMOs for that matter. Yet, railing on a game due to graphics is, well... it is just plain dumb.
There are games out there with 16 bit graphics that have better game play than some mmos. For that matter there is some 16 bit single player games that are better than other 32 bit single player games, not because of graphics but because of game play.
Sure, everyone wants a game with good graphics but those only enhance the play.
TOR's graphics look ok but are no where near as good as ME or Dragon age, they look on par with STO. one of the biggest complaints at the moment going around is the fact the graphics on TOR dont look that great to what people expected
mmos will always be behind the single player games, the reduced graphical requirements helps allow more people to play and reduced lag, most mmos are only designed for a pc and dont have a console to bring it to the people. its also probably cheaper to produce on what is a very risky project. a single player game will be around for ever but if an mmo fails then thats it, money lost.
Im also not sure who you think STO's competitors are. ME is not one of them. games like wow, warhammer, eve are their competitors and even then there are slightly different markets and STO graphics hold up very well
sorry you did not like the game but its a work in progress, maybe in a years time when you come back you will find you like it alot more.
SW:TOR looks like KOTOR graphics wise. Not bad for an MMO,STO looks better in my personal opinion, but i think everyone can agree that TOR looks NOTHING like ME except for the fact that they both have humanoid models as your main character
sto gfxs are ok, you have to remeber it has to scale with computers hardware, and because of that its hard to optermise it for high end gfxs.
i run this game on 1 card and on a xfire setup and really isn't much difference, i just don't get fps loss in fedballs.
someone said this game is better than aoc/dnd truth is it isn't in noway. not unless we are going to get a directx 11 patch which i would drool over.
if anything i would make one point tho. this game does use a broad band of resorces and even the most up to date card gets hot running it. but i would in no way say thats positive. if anything its abit backwards of the engine.
In fairness, I'm more of a gameplay guy as long as the graphics are decent. The rest of the points were spot on.
Best of luck OP.
what competitors? game looks better than any other MMO on the market right now I think
It's true if Startrek fans don't like it, what's the point of using the brand?
Though the OP mostly has two problems
- Not willing to wait. He doesn't have to. But I am not sure I would call things "quitting" if you can come back a few months later and have the content that wasn't there and lead you to quitting.
- Unrealistic expectations. Startrek Onlines graphics are amazing for an MMO. Even on ground they can be quite impressive. (Though character models got be better, the planet settings are beautiful)
FIRST of all i am not trolling i was just making a statement and idk where yall get your info but the gameplay footage from SWTOR look pretty much like ME to me... specially the first city they unveiled and idk what MMO's yall have been playing? but Aion out does STO along with AoC lol but i was mainly talking about the MMO's that are about to come out.... LIKE i said that was only one statement i made if yall would only read what i wrote and i have a feeling that most of the people that are trying to bash me are trekie fans that dont wanna hear anything bad about their game... well sorry guys but yalls game needs A LOT of work and according to a true gamer (me) its way down on the list
Yes i agree Crysis 2 look insane lol soo excited!
P.S. ok maybe i was wrong about the graphics in SWTOR... they tricked me with the cinematics... damn devs!! but compared to APB, EVE Dustorm, and FFXIV STO has nothing to hold to that
P.S.S i NEVER said the graphics were bad i said they were acceptable.... please read and understand what i said before you try to comment on it.
Your mistake it in comparing and MMO with any singleplayer game. Comparing graphics MMO to MMO is acceptable and therefore debatable. Since I have not played SWTOR yet, I can not say how the graphics actually compare. The only game that I think has better graphics out of the only you mention above (EVE DUST, not Duststorm, is NOTan MMO) might be APB. But then again it is more of a single player FPS (actually 3rd person) experience with MMO elements and not what I really call an MMO.
Of the eight or nine MMO's I have played including AoC and Warhammer, I would say that only LOTRO and maybe EVE Online have better graphics. LOTRO only if you run in Dx10 and EVE Online only if you are running in the new graphic version (previous verson was not as good). STO would come in maybe a close third. For an MMO that is more then acceptable.
On another note, I would have to ask, why is it that it seems that "graphics" is the biggest complaint. I would think that if you have complaints about the game you would lay them out with more then just graphics leading the way.
Everyone henceforth should strive to be this dude. (sarcasm alert)
your wasting your breath cuz i was never comparing an MMO with a single player get your facts right i was comparing STO with OTHER MMO's THAT ARE GOING TO BE COMING OUT.... and i never said it was my biggest complaint.... somtimes i really wonder if all of you guys on this fourm only read what yall want instead of seeing what one actually says... FOR THE LAST TIME I SAID THE GRAPHICS WERE ACCEPTABLE FOR F**K SAKE!
P.S. my biggest complaint would be cryptics whole marketing technique if one really wants to know.... Along with the lack of content but i understand this is all going ot be fixed so i started talking baout the one thing that probally wont be fixed... please for the Love of God STOP ASSUMING THINGS Thank you
calm down, you made a thread on a star trek website that you basically only spoke about the graphics being the main bulk of your post, of course people are going to then talk about that issue as that is the main point you raised.
in your opening post you talk about Mass effect 2 and its graphics which sounded very much like a comparison. maybe you did not mean it that way, but that is how it reads. as Gruug said two of the games mentioned are not really mmo's or at least debatable.
talking about the graphics of future mmos is pretty irrelevant until they are released and people can play them and see how they stack up, what looks good on a promo trailer wont always look great in game, you said it yourself with TOR that you at first thought it looked better than you realised.
and yes whilst you did say they are acceptable at best people still have a right to comment if they believe you are wrong, you make it sound like the graphics are the most important thing and that all the future mmo;s (some that wont be out for over a yaer) will trounce STO because of the graphics. i personally think they are well well above acceptable. dont get angry if people disagree or dissect your opening post, everybody is entitled to their opinion as much as you.
your post have made more than a few assumption so maybe you could take your own advice and stop assuming yourself.

Hey...I'm one of those "non-Trek" fans tbh. I didn't expect to like STO but Beta sold me on it in a major way! I loved the game...until RA5. Unfortunately, I could only take the same repetitive daily missions so long.
I asked Cryptic to PLEASE bring in repeatable quests before Season 2 to try to quell some of the boredom so many people are feeling, but they want to tie it to "sidekicking"...a feature I have zero interest in. Sadly, I agree with the title of this thread more than I disagree at this point.
"Trek" alone meant nothing to me...the game is what I enjoyed while I had stuff to do...but too much repetition and far too little variety killed it.
