Why so many "patches"?!

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I only play a few days a week, but EACH AND EVERY TIME I have to wait for "patches" to load.

This has gotten way beyond the point of being ridiculous. I like Trek, but 10-30 minutes of downloading is wearing my patience very thin.

New MMOs tend to have many patches in the first 6 months or so.

Yeah, these are the growing pains of a new MMO. I know it hurts a little now, but it'd hurt a lot more if they were doing nothing to improve the game. As it stands, they seem to be throwing everything they got at STO and seeing what sticks. Here's hoping things settle after the 2.0 Update.

    10-30 minutes?
you have ISDN or 56k ?

i am happy about every single patch because this game needs every bugfix and piece of content that is ready to go live ASAP!

Also you can go here to see what is coming ...and approximately when: http://www.startrekonline.com/calendar2

well the reason there are SO many patches is because they can't seem to release any new content that isn't full of bugs. The BS in the above posts about " oh its new and all new mmos have problems" is a cop out. Cryptic apologists! This is a horrible, bug-filled game and that simply the only reason there are so many bugs!

    2 different issues:
1] You will always have patches. 5 years into Guild Wars, and it still patches almost every time I load it.

2] 10-30 min is waaaaay too long unless you are on dialup. It should take a couple of minutes.

People keep asking Cryptic for more content. The only way to get that? Patches.

And if I want more cow bell? Will that require a patch as well?

Afraid that patches are the way of life for MMOs. Else you run into a buggy game.

Perhaps patching before you normally log on, like starting the launcher and patch as you study or make dinner. So when you're done, you don't have to wait.
